Activity

Begin lesson by watching a video about a school community.  Revisit characteristics of a community chart to add or emphasis how a school is like a community.

Activity

Build a community with an interactive program online.  Describe the jobs and functions of the parts of your community.  Also, read Jobs Around My Neighborhood/Oficios en mi vecindario to learn more about people’s roles in a community.

Create a list of jobs in the classroom and have the students work in pairs to create signs for those jobs.  Share the signs and discuss why the jobs are important.  Play Hollywood Squares PowerPoint game.
