As a high school student Peter Parker was bitten by a radioactive spider while attending a public exhibition on safe nuclear power. The result: Peter gained the proportionate strength and agility of an arachnid! A few days later, Peter went home to discover that his uncle Ben had been killed by a burglar in their Queens home. Distraught, Peter vowed to capture the criminal. He easily apprehended the killer -- but to his great distress, Peter recognized the low-life criminal as a suspicious character he had spotted, but ignored, just days before the crime. Taking to heart that with great power comes great responsibility, Peter vowed to go forth with this hard learned lesson. Armed with his wondrous web-shooters, the reluctant super hero struggles with sinister super-villains, making ends meet, and maintaining some semblance of a normal life!

Spider-Man possesses superhuman strength enabling him to lift (press) 10 tons. In addition to strength, Spider-Man possesses superhuman reflexes and equilibrium, the ability to stick to most surfaces, and a subconscious danger sense. He also employs twin web-shooters that fire thin strands of web fluid.
