Classroom News!
This is ELMer the
camo pig.  He's our
pod mascot.
We will take our field trip to Kinman Farm on Tuesday, October 13th.  All kindergarten students (including PM students) and chaperones need to be at school by 8:30 a.m.  The students will meet in his/her classroom.  The chaperones will meet in the library.  The chaperones will watch a short video on being a chaperone for a field trip. Please make sure that your child has a bag lunch with a drink (no glass) for the trip.  The bag needs to have his/her name on the outside for easy identification.  Lunches will be placed in a box by class when we arrive at the farm.  This is an outside trip.  Please make sure that your child is dressed properly for the weather on Tuesday.

This was a short week.  We did some Fall and farm activities in preparation for our trip.  The students helped to clean out a class pumpkin.  WOW!!  That was fun!!  Some classes were able to carve their pumpkins, while others will be doing that soon.  The students made a book about the life cycle of a pumpkin.  When the books were complete, students were able to take it home with two seeds from the class pumpkin.  We reviewed the letters that have been introduced.  In math we worked on positions (first, second, third, fourth) and creating patterns.  The children love to use the pattern blocks to create and/or cover designs.  They are also learning the shapes: square, triangle, rhombus, trapezoid, hexagon.

We will be having our first field trip on Tuesday, October 13th.  We are going to Kinman Farm.  We are learning about the different seasons.  We will get to see a farm in the fall and learn about the plants that are harvested.  We will also get to see the different types of animals that live on Kinman Farm.  Students will get to pick a pumpkin, taste apple cider, and enjoy a hay ride.  Please see the information note in the 9-25-09 Friday folder.  Chaperones are welcome to join us, but need to be on the list of approved volunteers.  All chaperones will need to meet at school to view the Kenton County video on being a field trip chaperone before leaving for the trip.  This is something new this year and will be done for each trip that we take.

We will also be WALKING to the Edgewood Firehouse on Wednesday, October 21st to learn about fire safety and our own community helpers, the firemen.

We will be having a Literacy and Numeracy Parent Night on Thursday, October 22 from 6:00-7:00 p.m.  Please mark that date on your calendar and join us in your child's room to find out about the programs that your child is using in his/her kindergarten class.

Please help your child practice writing his/her first name.  We are practicing writing names using uppercase for the first letter only.  The rest of the letters should be lowercase.

Our PTA is wonderfully supportive of our school.  They provide us with much needed funds and supplies that would otherwise be impossible to get.  If you would like to join the PTA, please ask for a membership form.  The fee is only $5.00 per person.

Please note:  The school is now asking that any treats (birthday, etc.) be
store bought (no homemade treats, please).  This is for the safety of all students in our school.  Individually wrapped items make it easier for the student to distribute.

Please remember to send dated, signed notes whenever there is a change in your child's transportation.  Please list the name of the person who will be picking up your child if he/she is a car rider.
If a child will be going home with another student, we MUST have a note from BOTH SETS of PARENTS!!

Please send in a note whenever your child is absent from school--even if you called the school office.  We MUST have a parent or doctor note on file at school
.
