Once Again

I walk alone in the streets of my mind
Turning on paths lighted by Memory,
Staring down lanes brightened by Hope,
And pausing at roads darkened by Despair,
Then hurrying on to paths trodden once
In the dim glow of a dream never realized.

Those dreams vaguely light
The scarcely crushed grass
Of the once walked field�
Not yet a foot path,
But the grass can never grow
Where salten tears have fallen.

Dare I venture once again
Down the somewhat wilted green?
Perhaps, but not today.
For I do not know
What lies beyond the stone
I met before.
To go beyond,
I would be brave � perchance-
Or, foolhardy?

Today I passed it,
For Fear and Sense - Companions
Of my mind and Guardians
Of my heart took my hands
And led me back to familiar highways.
Enough trailblazing
For today.
But Tomorrow?
That brave and fearless coach will
Prod me down that path and say,
�Do what you must do!�
And then, I�ll go.
But that�s Tomorrow.
I�m with Today, that staid
Quiet withdrawn part
Known to all.
But, I�ll pray for a brave heart
For I must.

But, wait!!
There is a glow beyond
The stone which beckons me.
Fear and Sense converse,
Now at odds, and I am free
To run down the highways,
Past the streets, the lanes, the roads.
I do not pause,
For Courage and Dreams call.

The green crunches again
Beneath my eager feet.
Again, I see the stone �
But it grows smaller, tho�
Beyond it I do not see.
It is dark, but his voice lures me in.
And, I must go.
To meet my Tomorrow.
