What are preps? What makes them as offensive as they are? And most importantly of all: How do people become like that? Is it a sociocultural or parental influence?

This is so vintage Brady. Thank you, Ray, for making the first contribution in terms of ideas to write on. For anyone who isn't Ray and who doesn't know about his site: GO VISIT IT NOW! He's a genius.

As for preps...What are preps? Unfortunately, for the terms in which our dear friend Ray is thinking, there is no "technical" definition (at least, I didn't find one in my 10 minutes of research, so you'll have to excuse my laziness). As for my opinion on what preps might be (which this whole site is based on, my opinion), I conclude that they are the outcasts of society.

I know that, at first, this argument is unreasonable, but think about it for a second. Preps are the kids that everyone loathes, because they're so high up on the social scale. They wear snobby clothes, they talk funny, and they're quite arrogant. All this combined makes them a social minority and therefore the outcast.  And, plus, it's "cool" to be "punk" now.

What makes them as offensive as they are? They're offensive, because they've had too much wine. Or whine, I should say. All their lives, they've been pampered for success and only had to whine for what they wanted to obtain it. They're flambouantly metrosexual yet denounce homosexuals as an inferior species almost, proving that they have no real intellect whatsoever. They put themselves arrogantly above everyone else and talk in a condescending voice. This is all bad math to compute to a social stench which wards all possible acquantences away.

How do they become like that? Hell if I know. Truthfully, it's a difficult thing to go about. I'll answer under both circumstances given. Sociocultural (of or involving both social and cultural factors)--I can see some benefit (through other people's eyes) of becoming a prep. You're at the top of everyone looking down, the world is at your fingertips! It's almost like controling something, except all you control is your salad fork as it glides between your Crest Whitening Toothpaste white teeth. How terrif. The feeling of being ontop is of course a God-given want for most of the human race. Being a prep is only sufficing their natural urges in the realm of society. Parental Influence--Also understandable.  For example: A lawyer's son. I knew one once who was not in himself a prep, but was, by way of lineage, forced to be close to one. He was, in fact, the closest one could be to a prep without actually being one. However, by some means of intellectual advancement, he raised himself above the ranks of preps and found his own personality. So, while lineage CAN force one to be a prep, such is not always the case.

Breeding, should they? Preps should not breed. They should do us a favor and invest highly in condoms and birth control pills numerous times over. Even if they're not currently having sex, they should all be wearing condoms (female condoms for the girls, of course). Though, there's not too much to worry about in this group of people, nor in society as a whole. The trend to avoid any deep connection with the opposite sex has led to hit-and-run relationships and one-night stands. By hit-and-run relationships, I mean they test the water for a week, find one minor fault that they could probably have gotten over and turn running. This leads to less connection, less marriage, less child making (the one thing we're REALLY meant to do in life). One-night stands involve too much protection for reproduction and only lead to more seperation of the sexes, because each sex puts the other on a throne thinking "If I could nail him/her once, I'd be a God." This leaves out any room for actual want to do anything else.

In conclusion, I would like to say that I was once compared to a prep. However, I believe Mr. Estes was more referring to someone who is trying to PREPare himself for college and this was only after I got rid of my mohawk. I can not say from the perspective of a prep what a prep truly is, so this is the best analysis I can give: Preps are the outcasts who are the top of their world, while thinking it's the top of everyone else's, as well.
