What is The MARTY Project? The MARTY Project (Multi-Agency Response for Tribal Youth) is a voluntary, early intervention program designed to assist Lac du Flambeau Tribal Youths and their families in changing problematic behaviors which may put youths at-risk for involvement in the criminal justice system. What does MARTY do? * Provides assistance accessing community resources * Parental support * Screening and Referral * Community Groups * Crisis Intervention * Educational Services * Youth Activities What happens once a referral is made? Once the referral is received, this office will contact the child and his/her family to discuss the program. An initial meeting will be set up to discuss how this office can assist in best meeting the needs of the family. This office will advocate for the child and the family, and attempt to coordinate resources to address the problem. Intervention is designed to be short term and solution focused. Who is Eligible for Participation? This office strives to reach youth before they are involved with the Formal Juvenile Justice System. All Lac du Flambeau Tribal (officially enrolled or descendants of enrolled members) youths are eligible for referral to the program. Youth referred to this office may exhibit at-risk behaviors, such as: * Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse * Disciplinary Problems * Problems with Authority * School Performance or Behavioral Difficulties * Lack of Community Supports or Community Involvement Who refers Youth to The MARTY Project? A youth may be referred to this office by school, law enforcement or tribal juvenile court officials. A social worker, teacher or concerned community member, such as a parent, could also refer youth to the program. Mission / Purpose of the MARTY Project To decrease the number of Lac du Flambeau Tribal Youths and descendants entering into the formal Juvenile Justice System.
