The Truth Will Set You Free

'It's a sin to tell a lie', old crooners used to sing,
Yes to tell a lie is quite a dreadful thing,
So always tell the truth, an honest person be,
Because you know, the truth will set you free.

The first lie told to Eve, it caused a lot of strife,
Brought untold anguish to Adam and his wife,
Mankind in bondage to sin, held in captivity,
Until the day that Jesus brought the truth to set men free.

"I bear witness to the truth," said Jesus to the governor of the land,
"What is truth?" asked Pilate, he didn't understand,
And so on a cross our Lord, he died in agony,
The truth of which, from sin has set us free.

He rose and then ascended to His throne on high,
His victory it has broken the power of the lie,
In heaven now, He intercedes for you and me,
And so the truth of Jesus, is the truth  that sets us free.

"Tell the truth and shame the devil," so they say,
Why tell a lie, do you want to make his day?
Only to the Lord, make sure you bow the  knee,
And then you'll find the truth will set  you free.

Jesus' sacrifice, our sins has washed away,
No more the price of sin we have to pay,
Soon Jesus will return, and every eye  will see,
This is the truth that surely sets us free.
