Ruth Hughes sent me this article to include in the next edition  about 5 months back. Sorry it's taken so long Ruth!!! Many apologies!

Why do I love Rik Mayall?  It's a hard question.  Is it because he's really good looking?  Yeah sure,  that's part of it but you wouldn't say that that would
invoke unconditional love would you?  He's talented and that's a major part.  He isn't just a good comedian he acts well and he writes sitcoms as well as
doing stand up.  I'm not sure it is Rik that I'm in love with…..   It's the ideal.  The amazing support from Ade and the picture you come up with in your mind of this superstar that can do no wrong.  I mean we don't know so much about Rik…  You can know the dates of birth of his children but you can't know him.  It's really hard when you think about it like that.  Rik is so funny.  He makes us laugh and he makes us happy.   You associate things all around you with him.  The way normal things happen reminds you of whatever quote from the Young Ones or Blackadder.  There isn't a situation in life that a quote can't improve.  But we love against the odds.  How many of us shout or cry at our friends who do not understand what we feel or how it is?  I suppose it's an individualist thing it's different but you can't help feeling your alone
sometimes. I know I'm partly in love with what Rik's got.  He has it all, as they say.  He's famous.  (Don't deny it you want it too.)  His home life is stable, so different to so many stars nowadays.  He's gorgeous.  He has devote fans which love him.  I suppose it must be a HUGE ego trip.  And he's got money.  (Even if it does come from McDonalds!)  He's not just famous.  He's a famous comedian.  Much better than a famous pop star.  It means he's got talent, he's not just a one show wonder either.  He's consistently good.  (And so good.)  There is so much there to love and to want.  I mean isn't there a quote:  "I'm Rik Mayall!  I can do what I want."  Rik is so strong and I hope he stays that way. It is certainly wrong to say I want to be him.  And most probably wrong to say I want to be with him.  (This could well spoil the idol we have.)  But I believe I'm preaching to the converted when I say that we would all love what Rik has and would all die to meet him.  Just once.

With love if you read this Rik
