Oak Mantle
I was asked by a client to design and build a mantle. The new mantle is made to replace a piece of plywood stained to look like oak. These shots were done in my studio. What a great place to play.
This is the bare fireplace with the old mantle removed. Here I am finishing one of the edges with a router.
Next I had to trim down some oak for the bottom piece of the mantle. Here you can see the build up of the 4 different layers.
Here is the back side of the mantle. See the support blocks? Here it is after the glue has dried and the nails are set.
I originally chose a natural stain but the client want to match some existing art so we went darker. Here is the mantle in position.
