Many discoveries
Following the windings of the coast, Harry and the Professor enter a field of bones. It is so large that it undulates away into the distance. It contains the countless remains of a succession of antediluvian monsters. It is a naturalists treasure chest, a most important discovery. The Professor becomes even more excited when he picks up a human skull from out of the Quarternary dust. The consequences of this find cannot be underestimated!
Continuing their walk, the pair see a forest of huge palms. Harry spots a number of mastodons browsing between the enormous trees. They are about to move closer when the Professor sees a massive wild man watching the herd. He appears to be shepherding the giant animals.
Immanis pecoris custos, immanis ipse!

The Professor and Harry hastily retreat before being seen.
On a thin strip of beach on the way back to where Hans is working on the raft, Harry picks up an old and rusty dagger of singular shape. The Professor identifies it as a sixteenth-century Spanish dague. Nearby is a dark and gloomy tunnel under a substantial overhanging rock. On the entrance wall they find a carving. It is the initials of the man who went before them:
