"Chen Shi-Mei" Party

Chen Shi-Mei was a character in a Chinese opera who deserted his wife and tried to kill her in order to marry the emperror's daughter so as to advance his own political career.
A PFP party legislator, Mr. Chiu, compared President Chen's son-in-law, Dr. Chao, to Chen Shi-Mei, while attacking Dr. Chao for taking some scheduled leave from National Taiwan University Hospital during the current SARS breakout.
Another legislator, Mr. Lin, however, disclosed that Mr. Chiu himself had deserted his wife to marry his then student when he was an instructor at a college. He further pointed out that several other members of PFP also had deserted their wives and married other women. Hence, Mr. Lin said, there was a "Chen Shi-mei club" right in the Legislature Yuan!
Politically, PFP chairman, Soong, recently dumped his 2000 presidential election running mate, Chang, and has hooked up with KMT's Lien as his running mate in a bid for the upcoming 2004 election.
This cartoon shows some of these PFP party members and a bystander (reporter) saying, "A 'Chen Shi-Mei' party?!"
