Yorkshire West Riding Combination League U-18s
Keighley Albion & Bingley 32 - Lindley Swifts 10

Albion's youths followed up a good win away at Humberside last week by doubling up their league victories and defeating Lindley from Huddersfield.

With the new additions to the squad this year there has been a settling in period for the players to get to know one another but the team are beginning to gel and played some excellent attacking rugby in the main yesterday.

Ronnie Hodgson, Andy Feather and Matt Steel were at the forefront of much of the early attacks. It was all Albion in the first half with John Papaila opening the scoring in the corner. Good groundwork by the forwards saw good support play from Richard Windle rewarded as he scored his first try for this season. Albion relaxed and allowed Lindley back in to the game but good defence from Mark Smith, Scott Bellamy and Nicky Lister made sure the Swifts did not score.

Albion continued to throw the ball around and Colin Pickles cut through to score and as Lindley tired towards half time Hodgson and Lister both added fine individual efforts. Two conversions were added to make the half time score 24 - 0 to the Albion.

As with last week the half time talk seemed to send the team to sleep and from looking dead and buried Lindley were gifted two soft tries by a sloppy home defence one of which had the goal added to leave it at 24 - 10 and the Swifts thinking they might salvage something from a game they had never really been in.

The Albion defence consolidated itself again and began to dominate the Huddersfield side again. Good runs from Richard Dibbins and Mark Smith began to get the Huddersfield side on the back foot and allow Lister and Steel the room to put Jason Battle and Alistair Beaumont in for the final scores of the game. The goals were not added and the scoring finished at 32 - 10.

Andy Feather was the pick of the bunch for the home side followed closely by Ronnie Hodgson, Richard Windle and John Papaila.

The Keighley side face a stiffer test next week when they entertain Kippax at Cougar Park. Kick off is 11.30 and they will be looking to avenge a defeat from the start of the season when they lost 18 - 14 to the Castleford side.
