Sunday 7th October 2001
Women's Premier Division
Keighley Albion Cats 0 Bradford 74

Albion were given a harsh lesson on how to play Rugby League by a very committed Bradford side.  The visitors were uncompromising in both attack and defence.

The visitors set out their stall early on, a break down the wing leading to a converted try in the first 5 minutes.  2 more converted tries quickly followed with little resistance from the Cats defence.

After this initial setback Albion dug in defensively and with forwards Angie Pickard and Louise Clarke leading the tackling, held Bradford out for a quarter hour.  However this didn't last and the visitors ran in 2 more tries to make the score at the break 30-0.

In the second half Bradford used a combination of resolute defence and positive attack and consequently scored 8 tries unanswered.  Against this Albion ran sporadic attacks with Gemma Liddon, Alex Knight and Jodee Loader trying hard but to no avail.

Given such a one-sided match it is hard to single out any special Albion performance but Angie Pickard deserves credit for her non-stop effort in both attack and defence.  Gemma Liddon got the Player of the Match award for the same reasons.

As Coach Andy MacDonald said, " We were given a comprehensive rugby lesson by a very strong Bradford side and it is a measure of how much Albion needs to improve to reach the top of the league."

Next Sunday the Cats are away at Castleford.
