Yorkshire Youth and Junior County Cup
Under 18s Round 2

Keighley Albion & Bingley 10 Castleford Panthers 28

Albion were entertaining premier division opposition in the Yorkshire cup and were far from daunted by the top flight side.

The home side certainly took the game to the Castleford side in the first ten minutes and made sure they played their possession out. Scott Bellamy and Mark Smith were driving in well along with Alex Pearson but the Castleford defence held firm and locked the Albion out.

During the first half Albion continued to press with John Papaila having his best game of the season so far both in attack and defence but the Panthers defence was rock solid and showed that with the limited chances Albion gave them they were capable of scoring as they scored three tries in the first half without reply from the home side. Two conversions were added to leave it at 16 - 0 at half time and it all to do for the Albion. The score was an unfair reflection on the play from the home side who did deserve at least one score but the pace and size of the Castleford side was a telling factor on the younger Keighley side.

The Albion came out for the second half and started the brighter. Feather and Steel had kept prompting the attack forward and good combination play between the two of them opened the Castleford side up and Feather cut down field. Robinson supported the play and Feather fed him to score Albion's first points and a well deserved try. The Castleford side were in no mood to let the home side back in and scored two further tries to in effect seal the game.

Man of the Match Feather was never going to lie down however and a further break from him saw him go two thirds of the pitch to score a great individual effort. Lister added one of the conversions to finish the scoring at 28 - 10.

Albion refused to lie down and whilst they didn't score any further points they shut out the Panthers for the remaining quarter of the game and should take a great deal of heart from the performance. Feather, Steel and Papaila were the pick of the team but they all played well against a well drilled Castleford side.
