At a packed presentation meeting for the Women's Rugby League at Blackpool the Keighley Albion Cats captain Laura Ackrody received the prestigious Premier Division Player of the Season 2000-2001 award. This was presented by Mike "Stevo" Stephenson, the Rugby League commentator on Sky TV.
This trophy was selected by all the referees of all Women's Rugby League matches, the officials selected their Player of the Match after every game and Laura scooped the most selections with 9.
What makes Laura's achievement even greater is that the Cats were only promoted to the top flight at the start of the season and successfully struggled to remain in the Premier Division with only 7 wins from 22 matches.
Laura herself was very pleased with the award showing as it does her improvement over the season. Hopefully this award will be the springboard for further progress as she has recently been in trials for the Great Britain squad.
