Okay, so I didn’t come up with this on my own...but it’s very good, so I’m sharing it because the message behind the analogy is what really relates to my life right now. (It’s borrowed from Max Lucado’s Book "The Great House of God")
In God’s house there is a kitchen. It’s not a restaurant with a menu, but a kitchen; open at all hours, cozy and familiar.
In this kitchen, He is the chef. Just like in your house, you don’t walk up to the cook and tell them what you’d like to have for dinner. This makes me think of how life was when I was a little girl. My mom made dinner and provided food for our table without my input. Mom knew best.
Now, given the choice between vegetables or cookies, most of us would opt for the cookies. But we can’t live on a diet of cookies. But, since God is the one who prepares our dinner for us, He makes sure that we are eating a balanced meal.
Some days are "three cookie days"; Everything goes our way, all of our prayers are answered, life is great. Then there are some days when we must eat our vegetables. We don’t especially enjoy eating our vegetables, but God wants us to be strong, thus, we must eat them.
He gives us our daily bread. It’s like manna from heaven. It only lasts for today. We can’t store it up for tomorrow or for next Tuesday, or for when we turn forty. It’s only good for today. We don’t need to look any further than today.
What we must do, however, is accept today’s meal with a grateful heart. We must take our cookies and vegetables, whatever comes our way, and thank God for His provision, for He is the Chef and He is feeding our souls. God knows best.
And, hey, if we don’t like the menu, we can talk to God about it. Jesus did. He asked His Father if it were possible, that "this cup may pass me by." But He also prayed, "Thy will be done." We must be the same as Christ Jesus.
