Basic Raglan Sweater

The sample is modeled here by my very cute son, Jack. He is two, and hobbies include catching bugs, watching Bob the Builder, and tormenting his older brother and sister. I used Paton's Classic in denim marl. I did the suggested ribbing under the arms to take in ease and make it fit a baby better. My favorite thing about the sweater is that, apart from weaving in ends, there was no finishing! It is gratifying to be able to go directly from casting off to trying on.

This is a simple, top down raglan sweater. The pattern is written for children, and includes a discussion of infant sizing and how to make a sweater that will fit from infancy to size 2. It is, however, easily adapted to adult sizes.

Top-Down Saddle Shoulder Sweater

For this sweater, I used worsted-weight superwash merino from Spirit Trail Fiberworks - sooooo soft! It took about 600 to 800 yards.
This sweater is knit from the wearer's actual measurements. My finished chest measurement is about 34 inches, and the model is my 8 year old daughter, who loves her new sweater so much she even wore it a couple times already despite this being the hottest, driest summer here in years!

The pattern was a fun one to knit, although I recommend starting it by yourself until you get the cables started and the increases going properly - I started mine in the coffee shop with a bunch of knitting friends and when I got home discovered that I had created a brand-new cable design for the front when I wasn't looking!

Cabled Vest

I made this vest out of Patons Classic Wool for the body, and Patons Kroy (double stranded) for the ribbing and trim. Both SnL (for whom I made it) and I like lots of colour!

This was my first non baby sized garment, and I was a little nervous, but Fran held my hand throughout, and all three of us are immensely pleased with the results.

I'm not good at visualizing what a given stitch pattern will result in, so working on this was quite an adventure. I loved watching the pattern develope. You have to work at least two full pattern repeats (vertical) before you can see much.

I would suggest doing the ribbing p1, *k2, p2*, ending with a p1. That way, the purl columns between the cable and faggotting are already in the right place. I also found it easier if I just used stitch markers to mark the cabled sections, so I didn't have to keep inspecting closely to see which section I was supposed to be working after I'd put the project down for a while.
