The Arab Free-Trade Bloc is a direct emulation of the European Economic Community: a group of associated nations forming a single trading unit. It grew out of the panic that struck the Middle East with the discovery and propagation of cheap fusion power. The Bloc is largely held to be a key factor in the return of prosperity (though hardly wealth) to the Arab world since the War.
There have been movements to give the Bloc the characteristics of a political union as well, but so far no such movement has met with success.
