Youthful tiger girls have tremendous potential looking forward to the 2003 season

By Drew Geraets

The Marshall girls spent 2002 gaining valuable experience facing teams like state-ranked Fairmont. All-conference runners Traci Pagel (8th grade) and Julia Schultz (9th) led the tiger squad consistently placing toward the front of the pack. Also contributing to the mix were Breha Holcomb (11th), Laura Johnson (8th), Samantha Tauer (7th), Lindsay Baun (9th), and Haley Meyer (9th). The tiger girls finished 8th out of 16 teams at the section meet but had members new to the varsity squad and post-season running.

-Willmar-
What I saw that was encouraging to me was Julia (Schultz) going after these two Willmar girls that were in the top ten of the state meet, said Jacobs. Shes within striking range of two people out of our section.

-Litchfield-
The fact that were running better and finishing two notches down shows the talent in the section, Tigers coach Mike Jacobs said.

The challenge of running in a difficult section will bode well for the Marshall girls as they continue to mature and gain race experience.

Look for the tiger girls to improve dramatically next season, as they will not lose anyone to graduation.
