I wonder if ever you think of me, As you're drifting off to sleep, If the image plays inside your mind, Of the memory I keep. And I wonder if when you spoke to me, The words you said were real, Or were you just trying to get to me, To see how that success would feel? I've always been the levelheaded one, The rock upon which to cling, But I'm drifting farther out into the sea, Of the confusion that you bring. And I don't know if I like it, This sudden change of pace, How a kiss is seen when I look at you, Instead of just another friendly face. I know we both remember it, But we're pretending it's not there, The same conversations we have always had, The same smiles we've always shared. Still, I wonder if ever you think of me, As you're drifting off to sleep, If the image plays inside your mind, Of the memory I keep. And I hope that while you're lying there, It at least brings you a smile, And we'll admit the things we did before Even if it takes awhile.
