| When The Dreams Were Simple Oh, when the dreams were simple, when I was sure they'd all come true, that I'd awake with a horse in my yard, with a cute little colt or maybe two. Or that I'd awake with snow on the ground, and hear the no school whistle blow, to have a whole day to call my own, to sled, to ski, to tunnel in the snow. And dream my arms and little body would grow mightily in the night, then I'd awake so big and strong, I could take on any bully in a fight. Or that I'd awake to rare treasures, with money to buy me toys galore, like a watch I wanted or a telescope, or to buy out a whole, entire store. And not get discouraged too much, when a dream did not come true, thinking I just didn't wish hard enough, or that I woke before the dream was through. copyright 2001 Roland Ricker |
