Marmalade Publications Football Guide Series

The Marmalade Publications Football Guide Series is intended for those who need to know about the football played all around the world. Each volume provides the most detailed statistical review available in English on the football played in a particular country.

For every country we always include:

* Complete top level league tables since the introduction of the competition
* Results of every cup final since the introduction of the competition
* Comprehensive list of champions, all time league table, and other statistical highlights

We include second level league tables as well, subject to availability. These are included
* since 1980, for countries in the top 25 in the UEFA rankings
* since 1990, for countries between 26 and 40 in the UEFA rankings
* since 2000, for countries outside the top 40 of the UEFA rankings.

Third level league tables since 1990 are also included for countries in the top 10 in the UEFA rankings.

What’s more, the information on cup competitions runs back to the quarter finals, subject to the availability of information.


We are not claiming that these guides provide information which is not available elsewhere. Most of the information can be found in books (but you would need an awful lot of them, and they are not all readily available or in English) or online (but not necessarily in English, and not always in a format suitable for printing.) Where possible, we have obtained our information from sources of the time and located in the country in question. Where this has not been possible, the most authoritative international reference sources have been used. In some instances, we have obtained information from the excellent RSSSF archive.

No longer do you need to wade through ten different sources to find the league table you wanted. No longer do you have to wonder about that team your club must play in the UEFA Cup; just check out the MPFG guide and all the information you need is there.

MPFG guides are all produced to a standard format, and available as PDF documents. These documents can be viewed on your computer, and can be printed out on to A4 paper. If you need to know more about what a PDF is, then read the two italic paragraphs below; otherwise, skip past them.

PDF stands for Portable Document Format; it’s a way to ensure that the document you read is exactly as I intended it to be (unlike using, say, Microsoft Word). In order to read PDF documents, you need a PDF reader program. The best known is Adobe Acrobat Reader, which is available for free download from here, the website of Adobe Systems Inc who invented PDF. Be aware that the Acrobat Reader program is about 18MB and will take about 45 minutes to download on a dial-up connection.

An alternative PDF reader program (the one I use) is Foxit PDF Reader. It too is free and is a much smaller item to download, at just over 1MB. You can download it from here. (The page you are taken to has various Foxit products listed; the one you want is third from the top. Marmalade Publications have rights to include this software on the CD with our various publications.)

Our definitive guide to Brazil – the most complete book of its kind available anywhere in the world – will be available by the end of the year. That one will cost a little more, because it’s going to be several hundred pages.

What’s more we will be keeping our guides up to date. A revised edition including the most recent season will always be available before the start of the new season.
