Kipalbig formerly belongs to the Municipality of Tupi, South Cotabato
(as what I've read at the back of old pictures). Now it
is part of the Municipality of Tampakan, South Cotabato. It is
dominated by settlers from Luzon, mostly are Tagalogs and Ilocanos.
Decades ago, when you say its name, its synonimous to Alogs
(Tagalogs, Ilocanos also speak Tagalog). A clean and healthy
place, it is always cited as one of the cleanest barangay in the
Philippines (ows..). Famous clans dominates the place like the
clans of Parcasio, Pascua, Yñiguez, Reyna, Cariaga, Manila,
Malabuyoc... Today, many of Ilonggo tribes are also attracted
to reside in the place. The main indusry here is Agriculture. There
were Mango farms, Durian Farms, and farms with various fruit trees
that keep shades to fish ponds. Fruit plantations, cornfields,
coconut farms always keep it green. My family was the pioneering
in having Apple Guava Farm. Small yet productive fruitfarms are
cultivated by young farmers nowadays. Today, the entry of Lapanday
Fruits Corp. eventualy changed the sceneries. Bananas replaced
the coconut and corn fileds.
November
is the most festive month of the year for this barrio.
November 25 is marked for the Foundations Anniversary. The festival
of MakapUbe wherein Makapuno and Ube
are celebrated in different deli's. Kipalbig is known for creamy
Ube jams and sweet makapuno. November 27 is the
Fiesta of Medalla Milagrosa, its patron. Foods flourish
the comedors of every home, populary enjoyed by residents
of nearby places. It is where the barkadas meet again,
the amigos and amigas can renew their chikas,
the socialites show-off their garbo, the tropas
of tomadors drink bottoms-up, from dusk till dawn, all
in festival excuse.
