Some skaters have superstitions, but not Markus.  In his spare time he likes to be outdoors in the summer as much as possible biking or on the beach, as a skater he spends so much time in the cold he really likes the summertime.  Don't be surprised if someday you meet him on the golf course as he's an avid golfer.  He also enjoys playing the guitar with eight years experience with the electrical but he also plays acoustic.  Markus also has done some modeling for the last two years.  Internationally he has done some work for Swiss and Fin Air.  Locally, Adidas and the Spirals Catalogue - Figure Skating Supplies Store in Barrie.

On a typical day Markus gets up and is at the rink by 10:30, skates for an hour, goes for lunch and returns to rink for 2:00 practice session for another hour of ice time.  He then goes to the training room and works out for an hour and stretches for 1/2 hour.  He goes home and makes dinner then relaxes either playing pool or watching movies.

Gala shows

Helsinki – 1996

Mariposa – 1995, 1998-01

It was really wonderful to see Markus perform at the Mariposa Gala his Rock `n Roll routine was fantastic and really fun to watch.  This year 1999, is was said by many of the people that have seen Markus skate not only in competition but in practices that this performance on the night of the Gala was the best skate they'd ever seen him do.  My great thrill of the night:  He threw me the  frisbee that all skaters autographed during the procession, other than, of course seeing a great night of skating..

Since coming to Canada Markus has really enjoyed working with  his choreographers, Lori Nicole and Doug Ledret.  When asked what his favorite routine to perform was, he replied, "Any of the programs, if they are done well, are wonderful to perform."  He did however really enjoy his performances at World's 1998 and 1997’s programs.
