Return to Las Terranas
Once is just not enough so leaving a pile of work and my professional kiting career in the dust I headed for Las Terranas for a weekend of relaxation and good times. I went with Vince and his parents and we left as soon as school ended on Friday. The road into Las Terranas is absolutely crazy and would make for the deadliest and most exciting rally course you could imagine. We crossed the mountain and were at its summit at the perfect time to see the gorgeous sunset in all of its brilliance. We stayed in a little hotel on the beach and on Saturday rode horses to the one hundred and fifty metre high waterfall at El Limon. Gorgeous, absolutely gorgeous! We had the whole place to ourselves and I couldn’t resist joining the locals in their leaps from a point about thirty feet above the beautiful green-blue pool. What a blast. From here we joined Vince’s parents at Playa Bonita (pictures on the other Las Terranas site) for a snorkel before stuffing ourselves at a beach side restaurant. The weather went crazy Saturday night and we hung out around the hotel and watched the natural sound and light show provided free of charge.
-- as an aside the same storm threw a kite surfer in Cabarete twenty metres up in the air, he cleared a house, some trees and then released before he was carried to the road. He fell into a tree and could have been seriously hurt, luckily he was able to walk away with a hell of a story!
We woke up early and Mr. Issac’s itchy feet played right into our hands and he wanted to leave early. Little did he know that he was about to get a little early birthday surprise. He wanted us to go to hang out on Playa Grande Beach...we wanted to take him to one of the best golf courses in the world...Playa Grande. You should have seen his face. We were met at the course by Julie, Chris and Mira and we the four lads went out for an incredible round. I was lucky enough to have a coupon for the round ($150 + caddie + tip) YIKES! At those prices I knew it was a once in a lifetime opportunity. I didn't set a new course record, but I did drain a fifty footer for par and had a couple other pars and a few heart-wrenching rim outs for birdie. This course is incredible it is right on the ocean and easily the most beautiful golf course I have ever seen...and it is tough. Just to make it tougher the wind came up and played havoc with my already rusty game. We ended the day with pizza back in Cabarete and oh What A Day!
