Testimonial.

As the Director of Allied Therapies and acting Administrator of Pineridge Hospital,
I worked closely with and supervised Mr. Newns, and as such I feel qualified to give this testimonial.
Mark was able to establish rapport with our
adolescents and engage them in new activities, thus demonstating the ability to create a trusting relationship. Many of our youth were resistant to
trying any new activities, however, Mark's expertise in Tai Chi Ch'uan was evident and he was able to use that with both our adolescent and adult populations.
I might add, that in the late 1980's Mark initiated therapeutic programs that have now become standard practice in American Psychiatric Hospitals.
We oftem found ourselves in treatment team meetings calling on Mark to work with our most troubled and "violent" youth. His manner of establishing a
therapeutic relationship seemed to disarm these adolescents and foster a growing relationship.
I have been asked on occasion by these young adults
whatever became of "that English guy Mark" which demonstates an ability to not only establish a therapeutic relationship but to impress upon our youth
a positive role model.

In addition many therapists that have worked at PineRidge still stay in contact with me and are always asking about Mark Newns. He truly
made an impression on us all. It was our loss both as an institution and as a 'community' when mark decided to return to England.
Finally on a
personal note, it was a pleasure to work with Mark. His congenial, unflappable, good nature and quick wit was a joy.
