Introduction and Definitions

 

I. Introduction

        The goal of this presentation is two-fold.  Its intent is to assure the believer of the evidence in support of his or her faith as well as to give him or her the confidence in which to explain the gospel message to all of the world.  It is the authors’ belief that God certainly needs no proof of His existance or proof of the credibility of His Son as His Son or proof of the Bible being inspired but because it is so, it is defensible.  In our approach to Christian Evidences we will make every effort to present facts in a logical order striving not to beg the question on any of the disputed claims in the process of trying to show them as accurate and credible.

 

II. Definitions

        A. Apologetics - branch of theology having to do with defense and proof of God, the Bible, Jesus and Christianity.  The word apologetics is derived from the Greek word             which means “to make a defense” used in I Peter 3:15.

        B. Christian Evidences - branch of apologetics having to do specifically with the claims of Christianity and the study of it’s validity.

 

III. Other Introductory Understandings and Definitions

        A. Proof

1. Definition of proof - whatever it takes to convince someone of something.  Therefore, proof for one individual may not be proof for another.
