9. Sin & Man’s Lost State

1. What is sin? - Jas 4:17, IJn 3:4.  See also Dt Chapters 21-23.

2. “All have sinned” - Ro 3:23, Gal 3:22.

3. Sin is not inherited - Eze 18:20, Mt 18:3, Mk 10:13-15, Ro 14:12.

 

Does this mean you & me?  What are the wages (consequences) of that sin?

Do I not have original sin, a.k.a. the sin of Adam?  What tells us this?

 

10. Obedience (Despite Adversity)

1. The opposite of sin - See also "Works.”  REF!!

2. Not everyone who cries “Lord, Lord” - Mt 7:21-23.

3. Parable of the 2 Sons - Mt 21:28-32.

4. Those who love Jesus will be - Jn 14:15, 23ff, Rev 22:14.

5. Acceptance for the obedient without favoritism - Ac 10:34-35.

Why is the phrase “despite adversity” important?

What do some religions believe about those who are independent & wealthy.  What does the Bible say?

In Mt. 21:28-32, what the prodigal a son in the beginning?  Does this not indicate someone who is saved or a Child of God?  Defend.

 

11. Judgment

1. God is just and impartial, Ac 10:34-35, Ro 2:19-11, IITh 1:10, IPe 1:17, Rev 19:2.

2. Everyone will be judged - Ro 14:10b-12.

“Everyone has an eternity.  It’s up to you to decide where it will be spent.”  Discuss.

 

12. Eternal Punishment Awaits the Wicked

1. Punishment worse than death:  Dan. 12:2, Mt 18:6 & 26:24, Ac 24:14-15, Heb 10:28-29.

2. Wicked at future judgment:  Mt 10:15, Lk 11:31-32.

Some Jews today claim that heaven and hell are purely “Christian” concepts or contrivances.  Can you defend your view?

What would you say is a good follow-up objective with a non-Christian at this point?  Have you laid the foundation for further study of salvation, not skipping integral parts of your study?
