Kitsune is an attractive young woman. Her father, lacking sons, raised Kitsune as a true bushi, training her in the way of two swords until her prowess with the sword was sufficient to still questioning tongues. She was eventually accepted as a samurai by her clan and it was on a clan mission to another family that she met Ieharo, a samurai of the Sasano family. The two of them fell in love, and their clandestine meetings were discovered and denounced. Her father ordered her to stop meeting Ieharo at once, but Kitsune, young and drunk on love, disobeyed and rode away to a rendezvous with her lover. He had also been forbidden to meet the young female samurai - and had acceded. When Kitsune found her lover had betrayed her, she fled, abandoning both pride and clan.
Since then she has learned to laugh (somewhat bitterly) at her youthful romanticism, but she has also learned two important lessons: you can't trust anyone - and get what you can while the getting is good. Those lessons and her naturally sunny disposition have buoyed her up through hard times and the loss of her belief in Bushido. These days she lives by selling her sword as a yojimbo or by petty swindling, since she has no desire to make a living as a real criminal.
