Monday  10/23 SWBAT: read and respond in writing to TS chapters 28 (XXVIII) and  29 (XXIX) 
Procedure 1. Hand out journal entry for chapter 27 and ask the students to write quietly for 10 minutes. Tell the students that they are to keep this journal entry in their notebooks under a date with the proper heading

2. After the journal entry, the students are to read silently chapters 28 & 29; for each of these chapters the students are to complete a prediction chart. The students are very familiar with the prediction chart. Please refrain from choosing students to read the chapters aloud, as this is not always appropriate. If the students do not finish this reading, it is to be done for homework

Tuesday 10/24 SWBAT: compare and contrast Tom and Huck through completion of a graphic organizer and through completion of writing
Procedure 1. Review chapters 28 & 29

2. Venn Diagram

3. What contrasts between Tom and Huck are developed in chapters 22-29? Which boy assumes leadership roles in most situations? Which boy's outlook is more practical and realistic? Do you think this is consistent with these characters as they have been presented so far?
