| Steam is a more interactive program than with the original built in multiplayer. Steam uses new technology that allow players across to the world to both communicate in game and out. Unlike most games, old and new, Steam has a unique way of distributing games. When games are first released, they are usually sent to shops in the form of CD-ROM's, but Steam is different. Recently whenever Counter-Strike : Condition Zero was released, it was released both in CD form, but also over the internet. This meant that users could download their game content, rather than go to their local games outlet to purchase it. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Games are also updated in the same way. Normally games are updated byt downloading a huge file, normally about 20mb. If you are on a dial-up connection, this can take hours. Steam instead tells the user when their game needs updating, and will 'silently' download the new data into a cache folder in their Steam folder.
