Junk email (spam) in 1 hour
photo

I emptied my Yahoo Mail bulk folder just after 7:00am this morning. At 8:02am I took the above screen shot. Forget the dates displayed, those are 22 spams filtered by Yahoo to my email address here in less than an hour's time. In the few minutes it took for me to screen capture, resize, and save that image, two more spams arrived.

I'm averaging about 60 to 70 spam emails each day on this address with a far greater volume on weekends. My various other, newer and less 'published' email addresses average only a few spams per day. (I'm not sure about the volume going into my most public email address at GMail because I never use the web interface that shows your filtered and stored spam messages.)

The point is that this stuff is just killing the promise of the medium. It's not only killing email, it's killing people's interest and enthusiam for all things online - the inter-networking of people via the PC.

Help I've Been Spammed

Sure, I could cite web pages and references on dealing with these problems, but to what point? It's just a vicious cycle of one-upmanship. When the volume of junk exceeds the volume of quality by powers of 10, what good is it to quote definitions, references, and bandaid fixes? This problem is well beyond the level of something that us Joe and Jane Users can effectively deal with.

Scammers and spammers and zombies and trojans and adware and malware and badware and viruses and criminals and zealots and more... everything that's bad about people in the real world is magnified thousands of times on the net. I've watched this virtual crap evolve and have no answers. Indeed, I fear there is no answer. Sigh...

I hate this too. I get so frustrated when I go to a web site and I'm bombarded with adware and crap. I get this spam in my e-mail too. I left the house yesterday and was gone about four hours. When I came back I had eighty-one spams! ~Karen~

Despite how negative this sounds, I would like to make it very clear that Yahoo Mail does an absolutely outstanding job of filtering the junk received there.

Anyone saying otherwise has personal problems, including bad internet habits, poorly configured mail options, or basically no clue to what they are talking about. (They probably actually like Hotmail, too.) More fool they.

On Yahoo you can close the bulk mail... where a good lot of my spam goes. But that makes a few that look legit to come through on regular mail... I just delete about 8 from the main mail everyday... but I know what happens to my bulk when it is on..within 10 minutes one day I went from 1 to 54... wish you could block all that crap.
