Adirondacks / Lake Placid
On our last morning, we took a ferry from Vermont to Plattsburgh, NY.  We also found out that our flight home had been cancelled, so we were able to extend our trip an extra day.  Originally, we thought we only had 1/2 a day, but now we had a full day to explore the Adirondack Mountains!  We opted to drive to Lake Placid and see the foliage there.
When we arrived in Lake Placid, we drove through town and passed many of the Olympic sites (Lake Placid hosted the Winter Games twice).  Then we found our way to a hiking trail on a peninsula that juts out into Lake Placid.  The views were breathtaking!  It was definitely a highlight of our trip!
After our hike, we ventured to Whiteface Mountain, where we took a gondola ride to the top of the mountain!  It was very windy, but there were great panoramic views!
Amanda really seemed to enjoy it!
After a short rest, we drove back to the ferry to return to Vermont.  On our way, we stopped at "Ausable Chasm" (a gorge referred to as the "Grand Canyon of the East") for some quick photos (right)!  We all had a great time, and hope to take another foliage trip next year!
