Though joshua trees are famous for Joshua Tree National Park, which is located east or Los Angeles, we cah see a bunch of them in the dry area in Southern California.
When they were discovered by the pioneers, they were mistaken as palm trees. And, when they got a name for the first time, they were called "yucca". They are still called as "yucca" "yucca palm" or "yucca cactus" sometimes.
"Joshua" is named by the mormone pioneers with comparing the tree to Joshua (Biblical) who was welcoming the pioneers to the new land.
Here is how to grow Joshua Tree.

In addition, I'm attaching a picture of "Skull Rock", which was taken in Joshua Tree National Park.
