Iceplant

Data
Botanical name: Mesembryanthemum
Family: Aizoaceae
Photographed date: Mid April, 1999
Photographed place: Pacific Grove, CA

Pacific Grove is such a beautiful place that Stevenson, the author of "Treasure Island" has praised this place in his book. In winter, a bunch of monarch butterflies fly to this place to avoid the coldness, and in Spring, the iceplants bloom as if pink carpets.
Because Pacific Grove locates on the coast of Pacific Ocean in California, it rains a lot in winter, while it rarely rains in summer and the salt concentration in the soil increases significantly. Iceplants have flexibility to survive under such a strict condition.
