Link: The Legend

Link. It's a name almost everyone knows. No, it's not a chain. Link actually recieved his name because the creator felt that the character represented a 'Link' between the player and the game. And so, as any of you who have played the game know, he's a boy who is very skilled with a sword, knows how to use anything anyone gives him, and has an odd tendancy to run into dangerous situations. The oddest thing is, he does everything you'd expect an adult to do. He flirts with a princess, fights dark villains (what would a game be without a dark villain?), rides a horse, and most of all, he destroys zombies, bats, and disgusting but greatly designed bosses. (He also has really big pockets!)

History of a Boy

He began without a past. Until Ocarina Of Time, there wasn't much solid info about his origin. But this is about as much as I can give you:
     There was once a great war in the land now called Hyrule. Before the King united the peoples, there was much fighting, and destruction, and war, and more destruction.
    A hylian woman, mortally wounded, sought refuge for her only son. Her wanderings took her into the Kokiri forest, where she encountered the Great Deku Tree. This tree saw that this boy had a destiny, and took him in.
   After the mother had died, the Deku Tree placed him in the village with the other Kokiri, the forest children. The Kokiri were never allowed out of the forest, or they would die.
   Every Kokiri had a fairy, but the baby did not. As he grew, he began to be teased by them and felt slightly alone. But he had a true friend. Her name was Saria.
   Years passed and the baby grew into an 10-yr-old boy. Then, a curse was placed on the Deku Tree, and he sent a fairy to Link, and told him to come at once.
            And so began yet another adventure in the land of Hyrule...

In the newest addition to the series, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker,
The story goes as follows...
       Once, long ago, in the land of Hyrule, there was a great power known as the Triforce, and as there is with all great power, there are those who seek to use it. A great, shadowy evil swept across the land, and took the power for himself, this evil was known only as...Ganon. When all hope seemed to be lost for Hyrule, a boy clothed in green seemed to appear from nowhere. And this boy, who travelled through time to fight evil, was known as the Hero of time. This boy defeated Ganon and sealed him away, and his legend lived on, forever. But then, many hundreds of years later, Ganon was free once again, and began to wreak havoc upon Hyrule. All the people prayed for the hero to appear....but he did not.
              None remain who know of the fate of Hyrule...but the boy's legend lives on.
    And now, even today, on a certain island, when a boy comes of age, he is presented with a green tunic, to signify that he is the age of the one known as the hero of time...
