We may not see another #3 Goodwrench Chevrolet Monte Carlo for quite awhile. Selected by RCR owner Richard Childress to carry on as a driver for the GM Goodwrench Service Plus racing team is newcomer Kevin Harvick. Kevin has accomplished quite a bit for RCR in a very short period of time.

Just like a Hollywood movie stock car driver, Kevin Harvick hails from Bakersfield, California and won a NASCAR West Championship there in 1998. Driving for the RCR Grand National team, Kevin became Rookie of the Year in that series for the 2000 season. In fact, Harvick set a record for Grand National Championship points earned by a rookie, finishing third in the standings, and had a legitimate shot at the title, had the two drivers ahead of him not had phenomenal seasons. Kevin wound up his Y2K Grand National season with two poles, three wins, and sixteen total top 10 finished driving the #2 AC Delco Monte Carlo. He planned a few Cup appearances in 2001, but that all changed after the 2001 Daytona 500, and Kevin suddenly found himself with a full time ride in the driver's seat of the legendary Goodwrench Chevrolet Monte Carlo.

The GM Goodwrench Service Plus racing team, led by crew chief Kevin Hamlin, must have been up to the challenge. Kevin Harvick won the Cracker Barrel Old Country Store 500, held at Atlanta Motor Speedway, his first victory in only his third NASCAR Cup Series start. It was an emotional win for the fans as well as the team, to commemorate The Intimidator, Dale Earnhardt, who made the #3 Goodwrench Chevy famous. Chances are good we will see the #29 Goodwrench Chevrolet Monte Carlo around for quite a while. 1
