Burin Peninsula Regional Age Class Cross Country Results

The Mariners Athletics Club hosted its annual Age Class Cross Country Championship at Freshwater Pond Park on October 14^th , 2000 in Lewin's Cove. A total of 107 runners took part in the races. In the Pre-bantam Girls 1000m Division 1 race Kendra Clarke of Marion Elementary won in a time of 4:50, Brandy Peach of Jamieson Academy finished second in a time of 4:56 and Erin Edwards of Jamieson was third in a time of 5:04. Jamieson won the team award with a point total of 12 points. In the Boys Division 1 1000m race Shawn Edwards of Marion Elementary finished 1^st in a time of 4:36, Andrew Wiseman of Sacred Heart was 2^nd in a time of 4:39 and Derrick Warr of Sacred Heart was 3^rd in time of 4:41. Sacred Heart Elementary won the team award with a total of 12 points.

In the Girls Pre-bantam Division 2 1000m race Malorie Clark of Marion Elementary finished 1^st in a time of 4:23, Elizabeth Reid of Sacred Heart was 2^nd in a time of 4:27 and Teresa Bolt of Sacred Heart was 3^rd in a time of 4:31. Marion Elementary won the team award with a total of 14 points. In the Boys Division 2 1000m race Ryan Brockerville of Sacred Heart finished 1^st in a time of 3:52, Peter Greene of Jamieson Academy finished 2^nd in a time of 4:05 and Jonathan Walsh of Sacred Heart finished 3^rd in a time of 4:12. Sacred Heart Elementary won the team award with a total of 8 points.

In the Girls Bantam Division Pamela Reid of MCHS finished in 1^st place in a time of 9:05, Malorie Jagoe of MCHS finished in 2^nd place in a time of 9:09 and Jennifer Walsh of MCHS was 3^rd in a time of 9:37. MCHS won the team award with a total of 6 points. In the Boys Division Devin Dibbon of Jamieson Academy won the 3000m race in a time of 15:22, Richard Short finished in 2^nd place in a time of 15:50 and Bradley Pike of St. Lawrence Central High was 3^rd in a time of 16:35.

In the Girls Midget Division Margarite Fitzpatrick of St. Lawrence Central High Finished the 3000m course in a time of 15:36, while teammate Mark Pittman won the Midget Boys 4000m race in a time of 17:01, Gwen Evans of John Burke won the Juvenile Girls 4000m race in a time of 24:59. In the Juvenile Boys 6000m race Brian Drake of MCHS finished 1^st in a time of 25:58, Michael Godsell of MCHS was 2^nd in a time of 26:16 and Denis Holley of MCHS was 3^rd in a time of 30:25. In the last race of the day Les Holley of MAC won the 10000m Masters Men race in a time of 41:39 while teammate Sam Saunders was 2^nd in a time of 46:30.

Race Director Bob Hollett thanked all officials, parents, athletes, the park and the Lwein's Cove Fire Department for their help in the running of the races. The Mariners will now move their practices indoors at Pearce Regional High School, these practices will be held on Tuesday and Thursday at 6:30 PM and on Sunday at 2 PM.
