"I have a story to tell. It causes me great pain to tell it to you as it has been many years. But it needs to be told.
"We were so very happy. The Moon was a wonderful place to live. Everything seemed so tranquil and peaceful. It was the most perfect place to be born a princess. Yes, I was once a princess. The heir to the throne of a great and mighty kingdom. Nearly 2,000 years ago, I was known as Karyana, the Princess of the Moon.
"It was a time of peace and tranquility. Long before the Silver Millennium and Queen Serenity, my father, King Nahel ruled the Moon. My father was a kind and wise ruler. My younger brother and I lived in the Crescent Palace with him. Our beautiful mother, Mystica had died years ago when my brother was just a baby. Under my father's rule, the people of the Moon prospered.
"But our happiness was in vain. We began to notice that the great Sun was turning black, a sure sign that the great kingdom there was under some sort of attack. But the two kingdoms had not been in contact since before my grandparents' time so we did nothing. That was a mistake. In another galaxy, there lived a creature of montrous power. Metallia invaded our galaxy. Going to the young Earth, Metallia was able to influence the ruler, Dessicus and the heart of the king turned to black ice. They came to the Moon and tried to destroy it. The war continued for several years. My father was able to capture them after many battles and many deaths. He used one of the Illusionary Crytsals to seal Dessicus into a negative universe.
"But it was far from over. As for my family, my young brother tried to protect me from Dessicus and was slain at the madman's own hand. I was still mourning him when Jaerite, the son of Dessicus came to me, seeking to help us in our time of need. Though the son of an enemy, the son of the man who had killed my brother, I trusted him.
"I fell in love with him. I fell in love with the son of our enemy. But it was far from over....
"An so, my story begins..."
*****
"NO!" Princess Karyana held her brother's lifeless body against her. Blood covered her lavender dress, though she didn't notice. He had been only 11 years old, barely more than a little boy. It was too much. So many battles, so many lives lost forver. "Jerem, you can't leave me! PLEASE!"
King Nahel rushed inside the main hall. He had sent his children there thinking that they would be safe. But how could one hide from such monsters? He stopped in his tracks as he beheld his daughter holding his son. His only son. ~Jerem.~ Slowly he regained the ability to walk and so made his way to their side. He rested one large hand on a slender, shaking shoulder. He gazed at his son in sorrow. "Karyana..."
"He tried to protect me! It's my fault!" She raised her silvery eyes to him, tears streaming down her pale face. "If it hadn't been for me..."
"KARYANA!" Her father's tone surprised her. "Dearest, we must be strong. YOU must be strong. This is far from over. There are many others who need help." He tenderly pried the broken body from her hands and cradled it to his broad chest. "Please, think of the others. You have a duty to the people as their princess. Take care of them."
She knew he was right. She was the princess. She had to be strong if they were to win this. ~For thousands of years there has been peace. Why is this happening?~ She rose shakily to her feet. With one last look at Jerem, she started out of the main hall and headed towards the hospital wing. Most of the palace was untouched. There were only a few things broken, mostly when the gates had been breached. ~They probably wanted it for themselves.~ Her thoughts were bitter as she heard the sounds of the wounded. She plunged in, throwing herself into her work. It was the only way she could keep from thinking about Jerem.
It was several hours before she was finally able to rest. Her father had been able to seal Dessicus away with the help of Sailor Pluto at the Time Gate. And with the worst of the patients taken care of, she left to go to her private chambers. Walking into the bathing room, she shed her ruined dress and tossed it aside. She didn't even look at it, it hurt to much. Climbing into the bath, she began to clean herself. Hot water ran down her body, washing away the blood. But it couldn't wash away her grief. ~So many died today. So many children will never see their parents again. Why?~ She finished her bath and climbed out. She pulled a robe on over her naked flesh and proceeded into the dressing room. She sat at the mirrored table and studied her complexion. Her oval face was paler than usual and their were dark circles under her eyes.
(A princess must look perfect and beautiful at all times, right Mother?) She shook her head and sighed deeply. A shadow moved behind her, getting her attention. "Who's there?" she said as she stood.
The most handsome man she had ever beheld stepped out from behind the curtain. He had the most beautiful blue eyes and pale blue hair. And his face was so familiar. Just a matter of hours ago, an older version had threatened her and killed her brother. She started to open her mouth to scream.
"Princess... wait, please. I am not your enemy. I have come here to turn myself in."
Dumbfounded, Karyana could only stare. This was NOT what she had expected to hear. "What?"
"I am Prince Jaerite, of Earth. My father has attacked your kingdom. I wish to surrender myself to you. I am at your mercy."
Karyana called upon all of the teachings of her father to handle this. But nothing came to mind on this kind of situation. She was trembling again, this time in confusion. If what he said was true, she had to convince her father not to punish him. But if this was a trick, and she believed him, many more could die. There was something about him though... She stared into his eyes and tried to see through to his soul. She felt as if she were floating the longer she looked. ~His father attacked us not him! I can't let him be punished.~
"Prince Jaerite," she began. She had made up her mind. No one else would die today. "I believe that we can deal with this. I see no reason why you should be punished for your father's crimes."
Jaerite gazed up at her. She was even more beautiful than he had heard. ~Princess Karyana...~
*****
Three years past by quickly. The Moon slowly recovered from the war with Earth and the Moon people once again took on the role of watching over the blue planet. Jaerite proved himself to be a great ally. As Heir Apparent to the throne of the Earth, he was able to soothe his people's fears and peace once again reigned supreme.
So did his love for the princess.
It had taken time for her to completely trust him. But now they were so deeply in love that it was all they could do to wait patiently for her 20th birthday. Then according to the law they could marry.
Jaerite smiled as he watched Karyana with some of the children. She loved them so much that she had taken to teaching them the old legends. He listened to her lovely voice as she told one of the oldest tales.
"Once, a long long time ago, back before the Illusionary Crystal birthed our great Moon, there was nothing else but the Galaxy Cauldron. Then, the Illusionary Crystal slowly began to gain strength and was able to turn Dark into Light. One by one, the stars began to shine, giving birth to planets full of life. For many years, the Cosmos was at peace.
"But then one day, Darkness looked about and was furious. It spawned the monsterous power Chaos and and it spilled out into the vast universe. Many stars died trying to stop it from spreading. That was when the Sailor Soldiers were born. The stars chose one of their own people to defend them. They gave these soliders powers like unto themselves, called Sailor Planet Powers.
"But still many fell to Chaos. One, the strongest Sailor Soldier was able to seal Chaos within her own body. But Chaos was far from gone. It began to spread the seed of anger within the Sailor Soldier, turning her into a dark warrior. She then began to destroy in the name of Chaos, killing many of her own. She was feared by all. She was the Soldier of Chaos.
"And even to this day, Chaos is joined with that Sailor Soldier. Only the one who can truly control the Illusionary Crystal can defeat Chaos and send it back into the Cauldron. That one Sailor Soldier has the purest of hearts and the sweetest of dreams. The birth of this Sailor Soldier is of legend. Do not forget this story. Pass it down to your children, and your children's children. If at least one person remembers, then Chaos will never truly win."
The princess looked about her. The Moon gardens were her favorite place to be. She loved the fragrance of the flowers and all of the beautiful colors. She remembered when she was a little girl. Everyday she would come out to play here. So many happy memories had been gathered in this place. As she gazed about, she remembered how much her mother had loved the gardens as well. In fact, the roses from Earth had been her favorite. An ambassador had given them to the queen when she had been pregnant with Karyana. When Mystica had died, Karyana had taken it upon herself to care for the roses in her mother's garden. It made her feel closer to her mother.
~Closer. ~
Being closer to someone made her think of Jerem. It had been three years ago that he had died. But the pain was still there. ~How could Dessicus do something like this? He was just a child.~
She forced her attention back onto the children gathered around her. They, as usual, asked her many questions. Questions that she usually couldn't answer. She finally sent them on their way.
"Karyana."
The lavender haired girl turned to face the man whom she loved. It seemed as if they had known each other since birth, but they had met amidst tragedy. He was so gentle and handsome. His hair was the palest blue, and his eyes matched it perfectly. He had an ideal build. He was not too muscular, but he did have physical strength on his side. And of course, there was love. He loved her more than life itself.
"Jaerite." She allowed him to pull her small frame against his strong body.
"The wedding ceremony is just days away. I can hardly believe it." He smiled down at her. His pale blue eyes locked with her silver ones. No words were necessary to express their love for one another.
"Do you remember how we met?" Karyana smiled at him.
"How could I forget?"
*****
That evening, an ambassador from the planet Mercury came to visit with the king. She had hopes that the Moon and Mercury could reach a trade agreement of vital importance. Knowing that she would be ruling in his place someday, Nahel asked his daughter and Jaerite to have dinner with them. Karyana took a long, hot bath while she thought of all that had happened in the past few years. Even though the loses were great, the Moon had survived. It had overcome many challenges. After her bath, she rummaged through her wardrobe. Her eyes fell upon her mother's favorite dress.
~Yes. I will wear it. For Jaerite.~
Jaerite could not help but stare as the princess emerged from her chambers. She wore a long two layered dress that spilled about her feet. The top layer was the palest purple; it appeared pink. The bottom layer was a beautiful silver blue. The delicate skirt seemed to form a perfect circle about her slippered feet. It did not have sleeves. Instead, it had thin spaghetti straps to hold it up. The bodice was silver blue and cut very low in the back with a modest neckline. A strap matching the top layer of the skirt was stretched across her bare shoulder blades. Her wavy, waist length hair was held back by two crescent moon shaped barrettes. She wore only one piece of jewelry, a little lavender star with a diamond center strung upon a silver chain; the necklace had also been her mother's.
"Karyana, you are so very beautiful." He took her hand in his and kissed it tenderly. Karyana blushed at his gentle words.
They made their way arm in arm to the banquet. While still into the second course of the meal, Karyana's guardian entered the hall. He was a beautiful bird the color of freshly fallen snow with golden eyes that seem to pierce the soul. It was easy to see why she never feared a thing when he was around. His wingspan alone was over 30 feet.
"King Nahel! Dessicus, has broken out of the negative universe. He is headed this way and will be here in a few hours time," Maverick cawed.
Nahel rose to his feet. "Ambassador, return to Mercury. It will be safer for you there. Inform your Queen of the upcoming battle." He turned to his daughter as the Ambassador left. "Karyana, Jaerite... come with me. Everyone else, battle stations.
The princess obediently followed her father. But she knew that something was seriously wrong. Dessicus should not have been able to break out of the negative universe so easily. But what worried her most were the expressions on her father and Jaerite's faces. She had never seen them this frantic. Her body shook as she realized where they were headed. They entered the room where the Crystals were held.
The Crystals had been a part of the Moon Kingdom for as long as anyone could remember. The Crystal of Hope, the Crystal of Peace, the Crystal of Life, the Crystal of Death, the Crystal of Love, the Crystal of Wisdom, the Crystal of Light, the Crystal of Darkness, the Crystal of Fear and the Crystal of Time were the Illusionary Crystals. Only those of noble blood could use them. No one knew where they had come from. But the power the Crystals contained was immense. When used by a good person with a pure heart, they had the power to defeat evil. But when used by an evil person, they had the potential to destroy everything.
There were only eight crystals sitting upon the ten pedestals. The Crystal of Peace had been used to seal Dessicus away. It was trapped in the Time Corridor. The Crystal of Life was inside the princess. When she had been born, her heart was unable to sustain her. So her parents used one of the crystals to heal her. As long as it was inside her, she would live.
"Father?" What was happening? She was so frightened.
Nahel turned to her. "Karyana, Jaerite and I have discussed this all ready. We decided that if Dessicus were to escape, you at least should be saved."
"What are you talking about?" She was getting even more scared.
"Using a Sacred Crystal, I will send you to Earth's future. You shall then be reborn on Earth. You will no longer be the Princess of the Moon."
She looked at him in shock. "But, what about you and Jaerite!"
Jaerite took her hand in his. "We shall remain here to help fight my father. We will join you soon."
Karyana took a deep breath. (Think of the Moon Kingdom first, my child. It comes before you.) "Very well. Whatever is best."
Nahel turned to the remaining eight Crystals. "Sacred Crystals! I call upon your power and ask you to send my daughter the Moon Princess into Earth's future so that she may be reborn."
The Crystal of Time rose from its pedestal. It began to give off a soft glow. A silver bubble created by the crystal enveloped Karyana. She gazed at her father. She was so afraid for him. What if this time he couldn't win. Her eyes turned toards...
~Jaerite. I'll be waiting. And then, we can be together.~
*****
Jaerite watched her silently. He had so many happy memories of her. ("Oh Jaerite! It's so beautiful!" Karyana looked in awe at the flower. It was the same color of her hair. "Where did you find it?"
Jaerite took a bite of his apple before replying. "I saw it when I returned to Earth recently. It reminded me of you and how much I love you." He took hold of her hand. "I can hardly believe that it's been one year since we met. The moment I saw you, I knew that I wanted to be with you forever.")
He remembered how tears had welled up in her eyes. They were tears of joy. It had been a long time since her tears had not been of sadness.
("Jaerite, I am so very happy that we met. My life will be complete once we are joined as husband and wife. I hope to make you happy."
"You already have." He kissed her softly on the lips. "I hope our daughter is as beautiful and sweet as you."
A laugh escaped her mouth. "Daughter?"
"I hope that we have many children. Do you?"
"I have always wanted children of my own. The joy that they give."
"Then we shall have a large family."
"I love you Jaerite."
"And I love you, my Princess.")
Once the bubble had gone, Jaerite faced the king. "Now I will merge with the Crystal of Peace. My power, combined with that of the crystal will help keep my father locked up. At least until her powers emerge."
Nahel nodded, silent for a moment. "Why did you not tell her the truth? You know that once you have become one with the Crystal you can not escape."
"If I had, she would have refused to go. I know that I can not go to the future. My duty is here. I pledged my loyalty to the Moon Kingdom. And to her. She is the one thing that I hold dear. That is enough for me." He turned away from the king and closed his eyes. ~Be safe, my Princess. One day, we will be together. I swear it.~
*****
Where was I? Oh yes. I told you about the Moon Kingdom. It's so easy to get caught up in the memories. When I think about my life there, I feel so much pain and sorrow.
Anyway, after I was sent to Earth, I was reborn as Karyana Donelli. I lived with my parents in the United States most of my childhood. I didn't have very many friends when I was growing up. We moved often due to my Earth father's work. Every time I met someone, I had to say goodbye before long. By the time I was ten I had given up hope of having a real home and friends. When I was 12, I began to hang out with the "wrong crowd". I was into drugs, smoking and alcohol. My grades in school dropped and in my first year of middle school, I gained a reputation for being a troublemaker. I cut school almost everyday and was forever in detention. But everything changed suddenly when I got into the 7th grade.
Let me tell you what happened...
*****
With a sigh, Karyana made her way home from school. It was cold and raining. And she hated the rain! And stupid her forgot her raincoat. "This wouldn't have happened if that jerk Jason hadn't snitched on me. It was all fine until he told the substitute that I was skipping. Now, I'm late for my favorite show, I'm wet, and I'll be grounded again!" She began to slowly plot her classmate's demise as she trudged through the rain, her new jeans all muddy.
"Karyana."
She froze. Slowly, she turned and faced the most gorgeous guy she had ever seen. And being 13 she had seen eough teen magazines to know what was hot. He had pale blue hair and matching eyes. She studied him curiously. ~He must belong to a rock band with that hair. ~Why is he so familiar?~ She was sure that she had never met him before.
"Yes." She shifted her load of books in her grasp. If this guy was a creep, she would throw the books at him and run. One could never be too careful. She had learned that from watching "America's Most Wanted."
~I found her! I actually found her!~ The son of Dessicus could not believe his luck. Ever since he had been suddenly freed from the Crystal he had begun his search praying that he would find her. He reached for her. "I'm sorry, my sweet. But we have work to do." His fingertip touched her forehead. Karyana held her breath. She was unable to move. And she was scared.
A crescent moon appeared on her forehead. Suddenly, all of her memories came flooding back. She remembered everything. She remembered her mother, she remembered the first battle when she was only 9 years old, she remembered sealing Dessicus away, she remembered Jerem and meeting Jearite.
~Mother! Jerem! Father! NO! Don't leave me! I don't want to go to Earth! Jaerite...~
She gazed up at him. "No." Her voice was a frightened whisper. She didn't want these memories. She just wanted to be a normal teenager.
"Karyana. You have a mission." Jaerite took her hand in his. He was pleased that she didn't immediately pull away. "After you were sent into the future, there was a great battle. Dessicus was sealed again. The Soldiers of Pluto have protected the secret of the Crystals for the past millenium. But Metallia returned again and took over the current princess of Earth, Beryl and the Moon was destroyed. It has been many years since we sent you away and a new Queen ruled. She was your father's neice Serenity. And now, her daughter, the Princess has been reborn here on Earth as well."
Karyana absorbed all of this information carefully. "If the soldiers of Pluto protect the Crystals, then why look for me?" Her memories were back, but they were fuzzy. She felt that she should know the answer.
"Because Beryl killed the last Soldier of Pluto. She was killed before she could pass the secret onto her daughter, the current Guardian of Time. She has no knowledge of their power."
A sense of duty and urgency came over her. "So, what can I do?"
"Take this." He held out a silver bracelet. "Take it and say 'Echo Power. Make Up.'"
She took the bracelet and placed it on her wrist. Taking a deep breath she raised her hand and shouted, "Echo Power! Make Up!"
She was not expecting to be lifted into the air and exposed for all to see. Her clothes fell away only to be replaced by another outfit. Looking down at herself, Karyana was stunned by what she saw. She wore a short sailor style skate suit. The skirt was a medium shade of lavender while the tunic was white. It had two bows, one in front and in back. They were silver blue. She wore go-go boots that were the same color as the skirt. And she wore long white gloves with medium lavender trim. Her long wavy brown hair had turned lavender and was up in a high ponytail.
Jaerite held his breath as he looked at her. "You shall be known as Sailor Echo. You possess powers that will obscure your identity. But you have much training to do. Shall we begin?"
Sailor Echo raised her head and met his eyes. They held the same fire and passion that they had had years ago. "The Moon Princess is back. Let's go kick some ass!"
*****
It had been a hectic 3 years for Karyana. She had to manage school and being a soldier. Her feelings for Jaerite had come back as well. That was not too much of a problem. He said that they would go out only if she got her grades up and kept them up. Her parents were quite proud of her current GPA. She had a 2.3. For her, that was great. No, it was fantastic. Usually she got an average of 1.5. Jaerite was proud as well. But more importantly, she was proud of herself. She knew that all it took was a little hard work and faith and she could do anything.
"Why do we have to go to Japan?" She stuffed clothes into a suitcase with a sigh. "I want to stay here."
Her father sat on the edge of her bed. "We won't be able to go to France for a few months. My boss said that I need more training in Japan."
"Then why don't you and Mom go. I'll stay here." She had it all worked out. "I'll go to school and you can up my allowance so I can eat and go shopping..."
"You're only sixteen. Besides, you already know how to speak Japanese. So there's no problem." He stood abruptly. "Finish packing. We need to leave for the airport soon."
Karyana was now alone in her room. It wasn't that she didn't want to go to Japan. But what if they knew that she was only in ninth grade instead of the eleventh? Japanese people valued their education. She would look like a fool.
"Princess." It was Maverick, her guardian. After Jaerite had given her back her memories, they had sought out the white bird. Her parents thought he was her pet. He was able to trick them, and anyone he chose, with a special power that only Moon Birds had. He had the power to disguise himself as any bird he wanted. Right now, he looked like a large parrot. And it meant that he was allowed to move with them. "I spoke to Prince Jaerite about this move. He says that it is necessary. Princess Serenity is there."
A shocked look crossed her face. "In Japan?"
"Yes. But first you must find the one who is Sailor Moon. She now possesses the Crystal of Peace."
"How can she?" Her brow wrinkled as she thought. "Wait! She is my neice... the daughter of Queen Serenity?"
Maverick nodded. "Yes. The line continued through her family. Had the Moon Kingdom not been destroyed, Princess Serenity would rule it now."
"Karyana! Put Maverick in his cage. It's time to go!" her mother called up to her.
Standing, Karyana looked about the room that had been hers for one month. There had been no posters, knickknacks, and no dcor. She knew that she would be gone before she got used to it. It reminded her of a dorm room, bare. Bare and empty. She placed Maverick in his travel cage. One last look and she was out the door. It was time to start a new life.
Again.
*****
Japan:
"Hey did you hear!?" Usagi was practically jumping with excitement. "There's a new girl at school. I saw her talking to Haruna-sensei just now."
Ami, Minako and Makoto smiled at their friend. Usagi was one of the most outgoing people they knew. Every time a new student came to school, she went out of her way to make them feel welcome.
"What's she like?" Makoto asked as she pulled out her lunch. She noticed Usagi practically drooling over the home baked cookies she had brought. So, she handed her some, as usual. She had learned to pack enough for 3 people when Usagi was around.
"She's really pretty. Long soft hair, really thin and pale... The guys will go crazy!" She wolfed down all of the cookies in record time.
Ami spoke up. "I wonder what class she's in. And where she's from."
"She isn't Japanese, I think she's America!" Usagi squealed.
The sound of cruel laughter caught their attention. Umino and some of the other boys were surrounding the new girl. They had a copy of her transcripts and were making fun of it.
Karyana was not happy. Already things were looking bad. They could all see her terrible grades. They could see that she had been in the "slower" or "regular" classes.
"Man! And I thought that airhead Usagi was stupid! Look at these grades!" Yaruku, a total jerk, sneered. "All C's. How did you manage to get past the first grade!"
There was more laughter. Usagi couldn't take it. She never liked it when people got picked on. "Umino!" She stalked up to the boys, her friends in tow. She looked mad enough to kill. "Naru-chan used to make really bad grades in grade school. Do you think she'd like to see you make fun of someone just because of that!" She gave him a dark look.
The nerdy boy nervously adjusted his large glasses. "Come on, Usagi-chan. We didn't mean anything! Don't tell Naru-chan! Please!"
Makoto took her turn. "And the rest of you! Do you wanna meet my fist?" She waved it threateningly.
The boys swiftly apologized and handed Karyana back her things. Then they ran off.
"Sorry!" Usagi turned to her. "Believe it or not, most of us here at Juuban aren't like that. I'm Usagi. This is Ami and Makoto. What's your name?"
"I'm Karyana. And thanks."
"So, how do you like Juuban so far?" Makoto asked as they walked back to their lunches.
"It's different. I'm not used to staying in the same classroom all day. What time do we normally get out of school?"
"About five. What about your old school?" Usagi asked.
"Three, four if you got detention." They chatted until it was time for the bell to ring, then they made their way to class. Karyana was glad that she was in their class. At least she all ready knew some people. The rest of the afternoon past by quickly. As soon as the final bell rang, Karyana changed into her outside shoes and headed home.
"Hey Karyana! Wait up!" Usagi rushed to catch up to her. "Which way are you headed?"
"I live on Juuban Circle. You?"
"Yeah! We live on the same street! What number?"
"168."
"We're neighbors! I'm right across the street."
"Great! We can walk to school together."
They chatted all the way home. They were on the side where Karyana lived, so she invited Usagi over. Since Usagi's mother was outside, she just called across and told her where she was going.
"We just moved in three days ago. Sorry about the mess."
Usagi frowned. "Why haven't I seen you?"
As she lead the way to her room, Karyana stated, "Jet lag and trying to fix up my room into someplace I can live." She opened her door. Maverick gazed at the new girl cautiously from his perch.
"What a pretty bird!" Usagi ran to it. He allowed her to pet his head. "What's his name?" As far as she could tell, it was a beautiful parrot.
"Maverick." Karyana sat down on her bed. Usagi finished with the bird and sat next to her.
"I like your room. It's so clean! Mine's a mess!"
The room was done in varying shades of blue. Along one wall was a bookshelf. But instead of holding books, it held ceramic and glass butterflies. They were an assortment of colors. She had some posters on the opposite wall. They were of an actor named Sean Connery and more butterflies. On the dresser were several butterfly shaped candles and hair clips. Her bed spread had little butterflies and flowers. She even had a butterfly shaped pillow and rug!
"You like butterflies, huh?"
Karyana blushed then smiled. "Yeah! They're so pretty and elegant."
Usagi nodded. "So, why did you move to Japan?"
"My dad does a lot of work where he needs to go all over the world. This is the first time that we'll be able to stay somewhere for more than a month." She started picking at her bedspread. "We'll be here for awhile before we head for France."
"That's terrible. What about all your friends?" She noticed that Karyana didn't meet her eyes.
"I don't have any friends." Her voice was low, distant.
"Karyana! Are you home?" It was her mother.
"Yes! I'm upstairs!" She stood. "Come on. I'll get you something to eat." They headed out the door. "By the way, are you going to Mako-chan's on Friday?"
Realizing that she wasn't going to get anywhere, Usagi merely smiled. "Yeah! It's going to be fun!" Usagi stayed for a while longer before she went home.
After she left, Karyana sat up in her room and thought about her day.
"Princess." Maverick cocked his head at her. "Is something wrong?"
"How am I supposed to find Sailor Moon? Not even Jaerite knows what she looks like." She flopped down on her bed. "This won't be easy."
"I know. But we have to try. Even though we haven't felt Beryl in a while, she may be alive. Plus there are other dangers. The Crystals need to be protected at all costs."
"Karyana. Who are you talking to?" Her mother was outside her door.
"Um, no one."
"Don't stay up too late, dear." Her mother walked away from the door.
"Well, Princess, I suppose you should get to bed. You have to get up early."
She went into the bathroom and changed into a pair of sweat pants and a tee shirt. Her teeth were brushed and her hair combed. Going back into her room she turned off the light and climbed in bed. Sleep claimed her in minutes.
*****
It was past midnight when Jaerite came to her. There was an evil presence near the highschool. She pulled on her shoes and quietly made her way down the stairs. She knew that Maverick would see that her parents did not awaken. Once safely away from the house, she turned to the image of her love. He did not yet have the strength to free himself from the Crystal ofPeace. That was just one reason they needed to find Sailor Moon. If he were free, then they would make a formidable team.
"I'm ready." She raised her hand into the air and shouted, "Echo Crystal Power! Make Up!" While her call was different, her sailor suit was the same. She blew a kiss towards Jaerite and rushed off to the school.
The Sailor Soldiers were there fighting some strange creature. It was large with sharp spikes on its back and huge gargoyle style wings. It was also much more powerful.
"We can't even scratch it!" Sailor Mars shouted. She flung her fire attack at it. "Fire Soul!" But it did nothing. They were fighting a losing battle.
"Echo Moon Attack!" A stream of energy lashed out and lassoed the monster.
The Soldiers turned to her in shock. Who was she?
"Sailor Moon! Now!" Venus cried.
Taking up her scepter, Sailor Moon cried, "MStarlight Honeymoon Therapy Kiss!" The monster was turned to dust.
~So she's Sailor Moon.~
They now turned to her. But she knew she had to explain it to them before they started questioning her.
"Well, since we're going to work together, it makes sense that you know who I really am!" She closed her eyes and returned to her human form.
"Karyana-chan!" Makoto, Usagi, Minako and Ami gaped at her.
"Now you know. Sailor Moon, I need to ask a favor. Your Crystal, I need it."
Sailor Moon was in shock. "What!? Why?"
"Prince Jaerite, my love - his essence is inside it. In order to fight at full strength, and to survive in this world, he must be free."
"I don't understand." They were all at a loss for words. So she had to explain it to them. She took a deep breath and began.
"I was born Princess Karyana of the Moon Kingdom almost two thousand years ago..."
*****
It was really priceless, the looks on their faces as I told them who I was. I wish you could have seen it. Usagi especially. She looked so funny. I can hardly believe that she was their leader. I thought she was a total airhead. But she had a good heart. And that's what really counts.
*****
Karyana looked at the Soldiers. They were in shock. They had met her only a few hours ago and now discovered that she was one of them.
"Sailor Moon, I want you to know that I am not your enemy. I am a Soldier like you. I do not agree with you being leader, but I can do nothing." She gazed at them, a serious look on her face. "We must find and protect all the Crystals. If the enemy gets all of them, the universe will suffer an eternity of darkness."
"Sailor Echo," Luna hopped onto a nearby car, having come with the others. "We've never heard of a Princess Karyana. How can you be a Moon child?"
A sad smile appeared on the girl's face. "When Dessicus attacked, my father sent me into the future. He had all memory of me erased from the minds of the people. It was for all of our protection. He then chose neice to be his heir."
Sailor Moon gasped. "You mean, you're my aunt. ~So cool!~
"Actually, your great aunt."
"Um, girls." Tuxedo Kamen cleared his throat. "I think we'd better get out of here."
They could here sirens in the distance.
"Alright," Artemis replied. "Let's meet tomorrow after school at the temple."
All the girls nodded. They said their good-byes and hurried home.
*****
Karyana and the others walked to the temple together. Rei waved them inside. Mamoru and the cats were all ready waiting.
"OK. Karyana, tell us about these Crystals. We thought there was only one."
The other girl sat on a cushion. "There are a total of ten Crystals. The Crystal of Hope, the Crystal of Peace, the Crystal of Life, the Crystal of Death, the Crystal of Love, the Crystal of Wisdom, the Crystal of Light, the Crystal of Darkness, the Crystal of Fear and the Crystal of Time. They each have separate powers. If used by evil, then they are devastating weapons. I must find them before all hope is lost." She felt exhausted from last night's adventure. "I would say more, but I cannot. Will you help me?"
The girls looked at each other uncertainly. Finally, Makoto spoke. "I don't know. How do we know you are not trying to trick us?"
Karyana gazed at her friend. "If I were, then I would not be trying so hard to forget that I am no longer a princess."
Luna stood. "Karyana, until we know we can trust you, I don't think it would be a good idea for us to help you. We know so little about the time before the Silver Millenium. I think it's best if we wait until we can figure all of this out first."
It was obvious that they all felt that way. Her silvery eyes darkened. Turning away she said over her shoulder, "Then we are enemies." She rose and left before they could stop her.
*****
Karyana sighed as she sat down on her bed. Maverick glanced up from his perch. "What's wrong, Princess?"
"It's the Sailor Soldiers. They won't help. What should I do?" She rolled onto her side and stared out the window. She always loved to watch the Moon and stars. It reminded her of her past life. She had always loved the night sky. When she was a little girl, she had always gotten scolded for sneaking out at night to sleep under the stars.
"Sailor Moon has a guardian, correct?"
"A cat named Luna. Why?"
The great bird ducked his head in concentration. "Nothing. Nothing at all. You should get some rest."
"Good night, Maverick." She reached up and patted his head tenderly.
"Sleep well Princess."
Once the girl had drifted away into dreamland, the bird used the powers that only the Royal Guardians had. He was able to transport himself to Usagi's bedroom. Luna lay curled up on the bed. But as soon as he landed on the open windowpane, she was wide-awake. Usagi though was fast asleep, sprawled over the entire bed. There were few things that could actually wake her up.
"Maverick!" Impossible! "What... How?"
The bird chuckled. "You know me Luna. I never reveal my secrets."
"So it really IS Princess Karyana." The cat stood and walked towards her old friend. "I thought it was a trick. But now I know. Maverick, how did you get out of the Crystal Chamber? I thought you could never leave!"
"When the Moon Kingdom was attacked, Queen Serenity freed me with her power. She knew that if Beryl were to escape, I would be needed."
"The soldiers need to hear this! I'll tell Usagi to have the others..."
"Luna, wait." Maverick ducked his head, lowing his voice reassuringly. "Now is not the time. Trust me. Let it all come of its own accord."
The cat smiled at her friend. "I trust you."
*****
The next day at school, Usagi couldn't help but notice the way Karyana ignored her. The girl went through their classes silent and alone. Even at lunch she chose to sit byherself under the cherry tree
"Hey." Usagi, Ami, Minako and Makoto decided to join her. They sat on the grass next to her. But Karyana continued to ignore them.
"Um, Karyana-chan? We're really sorry." Makoto bit her lip. "But, we've been through so much. First Beryl, then the Black Moon and others. Now this. We really have to be careful. And not just us. You too."
Karyana stood and picked up her lunch box. She turned a steely gaze on them. "I was sent here with a purpose. Since you refuse to help me, I cannot allow you to interfere. My mission is important, not only because of Jaerite but because it is my duty to protect this planet." She turned on her heel and walked away.
Once she had moved out of sight, her transformation bracelet began to beep. Jaerite was calling her. She raised her hand and whispered, "Echo Crystal Power. Make Up." In seconds, she had become Sailor Echo. She leaped onto the roof of the school and started on her way.
Seeing her leave in Soldier form, Usagi turned to her friends. "I think we should follow her." She raised her transformation brooch. "Moon Crystal Power! Make Up!"
"Mercury Star Power! Make Up!"
"Jupiter Star Power! Make Up!"
"Venus Star Power! Make Up!"
As soon as they were ready they rushed to catch up to Sailor Echo. Mercury called Mars on her communicator. "She's on the way," she informed them as they ran through the back streets.
"Good. I hope nothing's wrong." ~Karyana, we want to help. I know how hard it is to love someone so much that you would do anything...~
Mars found Echo first. She watched from behind a bush as the other girl stood in the middle of the park. A handsome man with bluish hair was there with her.
"Mars!" Sailor Moon gasped for breath as she and the others joined her.
"What's going on?" Jupiter asked, ready for battle.
With a shake of her head Mars replied, "I don't know. I just got here."
The smooth voice of the young man caught their attention. "Karyana, I have seen a vision. About our future."
"Jaerite, is something wrong? Are we in danger?" Karyana was ready to fight so that they could be together. She had promised him so long ago.
"No. It was a pleasant vision. I could see that we will spend the rest of our days together. And we shall have many children." He smiled down at her. "Just like you have always dreamed." He pulled her chin up and kissed her softly. His arms encircled her waist and held her close.
"Jaerite." She rested her head on his shoulder. "You have no idea how happy I feel knowing that we shall always be together." A thought crossed her mind. "Why use the emergency beacon? Maverick will be angry." That thought brought a smile to her face as she remembered how cranky Maverick could get.
"It was he who told me to use it. He felt that it was important for you to know. Now our purpose is even more clear. We must find the Crystals in order to find happiness. Otherwise, our lives will be spent waiting for children who shall never come."
Sailor Echo sighed. "The Soldiers have refused to help. Without them, it will take longer. And my Crystal is growing weaker. I don't know if I can do it on my own."
"Karyana, you must be strong." Jaerite sighed as well. "It will be hard. But we must-" He was forced to stop when Sailor Echo's body seized up and she suddenly collapsed. "Karyana!" He knelt by her.
Her chest was throbbing painfully. "Jaerite... The Crystal... Its power is being drained!" She clutched her head as a headache came upon her.
Cold laughter sounded from above. Jaerite looked up to see a face similar to his. "Father!"
"I am merely a shadow of my former self. Once the Crystals were removed from their chamber, I could be revived. I need all ten to return to my former glory. And i shall have them, starting with hers!" He lifted his arms and shouted, "Dark Kingdom Destruction!" Waves of dark energy lashed at towards the helpless princess.
"Burning Mandala!" Mars sent her rings of fire straight for the dark energy cutting it off. It gave Jupiter time to knock Echo out of the way. She then stood in front of her like a sheild.
"Foolish children! I shall not be destroyed by your pitiful attacks!" More dark energy headed for the Soldiers.
"Shabon Spray!" Large bubbles caused the energy to lose its way and evaporate into nothingness.
Echo watched as the Soldiers fought to protect her. She had to help.
"Venus Lovely Chain!"
"Supreme Thunder!" The two attacks merged into one, but it was still little more than an annoyance for Dessicus.
~I have to help.~ Echo stood slowly; her legs were shaking. The Crystal inside her throbbed painfully, but she refused to give up. It was her duty, not only as a Soldier, but as a Princess. (Mother, when you were younger, were you a solider too?) Jaerite stared at her, once again awed by how determined and strongwilled she was. She had come a long way from being that troublesome child.
"Karyana, you're too weak! There's no way you can fight!"
"Can it, lover!" she snapped as she turned back to the battle.
"Karyana!"
"I am Sailor Echo!" She knew what she had to do. This was possibly the ONLY way to prove to Sailor Moon and the others that she meant them no harm. She had no choice, even if it killed her. ~Jaerite, you will live again!~
Dessicus turned to face her smirking. "Ah! So the little princess is playing soldier. How very cute. You always were such a dreamer!" He chuckled, a dark expression on his face. The fire in his eyes was black like his heart.
"I shall fight to protect this planet and all of its inhabitants! By the light of the Moon, I shall vanquish you!" Crossing her arms over her chest she called upon all her power. "Echo Senshi Attack!" The combined powers of the Senshi were joined as one. They formed a spiral of multicolored energy tendrils and she hurled them at Dessicus' image. She knew that it wasn't enough yet to completely destroy him. She was still too weak for that. But she could put him out of commission for a time. She would then have the time to find his base and take care of him there, at the source of his power, Metallia's Dark Kingdom.
The waves of energy wrapped around the man and he screamed as his etheral form was eliminated. They all watched as it faded into memory.
"YAHOO!" Sailor Moon rushed to Echo's side and grabbed her hands. "You did it! You defeated him! I knew you were on our side!"
"He's not gone, not yet..." But they didn't care. The other girls congratulated her as well.
Jaerite smiled as he watched her. She had overcome adversity. She was most certainly NOT the scrawny little child he had found 3 years ago.
Too soon Echo gripped her stomach and fell to her knees unconscious. Her fair skin was ash gray as if all the blood had been drained away.
"Karyana!" Sailor Moon couldn't believe it. She had seemed so strong, what could have happened?
"She's very weak." Jaerite lifted her into his arms. "Her power comes from the Crytsal inside of her." He looked down at her, remembering how beautiful she had been the first time they had met.
"Inside? Why is it inside of her?" Mercury asked.
"She was born with a heart defect when on the Moon. It's the only thing that sustains her. Dessicus drained much of the energy from the Crystal. She needs to rest but she'll be fine."
"When she wakes up, tell her that we want to help her." Sailor Moon clutched at her brooch. "I now know that she is on our side."
Jaerite considered the leader of the soldiers, a thoughtful expression on his face. "When she awakens, you may tell her yourself, Princess Serenity."
*****
For the next few days, Karyana was in bed resting. Her parents thought she had some sort of flu and so insisted that she stay home from school. Usagi and the others came by everyday to bring her homework and just to visit. They talked about many things, the Moon Kingdom, all of the battles they had faced, and of course, the most important thing of all: BOYS. They all agreed that they needed to find all the Crystals. But instead of taking the one that Usagi had, Karyna told her to keep it, that her battles were far from over.
"If I need help, I'll call," she said smiling.
Time though was against them. Mr. Donelli finished his training sooner than expected and so in just a few short weeks, once again Karyana had to say goodbye. But this time, she felt confident that she had made true friends.
"Well, here I go again," she played with a lock of her hair. "My father has to go to France. His work. I don't want to go, but I have to."
"Karyana-chan! We'll miss you!" Usagi threw her arms around her friend sobbing. They all feared a flood.
"Usagi-chan, don't worry. I'll come back and visit from time to time. And you are all invited to the wedding, of course."
"WEDDING?!"
Laughing Karyana gently pulled away from Usagi. "I am seventeen. On my next birthday, I can legally marry. We plan on it being as soon as possible. Of course, we still have to find the Crytsals. But Maverick feels that at least some of them are in France so hopefully we can actually have a honeymoon."
"Well, I definitely plan on being at the wedding!" Rei smiled at her friends. "Always wanted to go to France."
They spent as mush time as possible together over the next two days. When the day finally came, they stopped by to help her finish packing. There wasn't much to do as Karyana had not really decorated, being so used to leaving out of a suitcase.
Usagi looked about the now empty bedroom. Everything that had made it Karyana's was packed and on its way to their new home. "It's so...empty," she said as she recalled the first time she had been in this room.
"I know," Karyana sighed. "Dad said that he'll be needed in France for a while, so maybe I can actually put up more than just a couple posters for once. I hate unpacking and repacking all the time."
"We got you something!" Usagi held out a brightly colored package. "Open it! It's from all of us!"
Karyana carefully pulled the wrapping paper off the box. Lifting the lid she couldn't help but smile. "It's beautiful!"
She picked up the bracelet. It was silver with a butterfly upon it. It had all the colors of the Soldiers. Pink, red, blue, orange, green...and lavender.
"It's even got a communicator. You can call us whenever you need help. Or even just to talk! Luna and Artemis said that cause it's from the Moon, it has a long range."
Karyana smiled warmly at her friends. "You guys are the best!" She hugged each of them and said her final goodbyes. Her mother came in and they all went out to the cab. Karyana waved from the back seat until she couldn't see them anymore.
~Well girl, time to start a new life!~
*****
Oh, how much I miss them. It's been several years since I saw my dear friends. I doubt they even remember me. After all, the last time I saw them was when Jaerite and I married. I'll tell that story to you soon. But for now, let me tell you about what happened when I moved to France. Of course, it wasn't easy for me leaving the only people who had tried to understand me. But I was also nervous about being in another new place.
*****
Sighing deeply, Karyana carried her bags into her new room. It was bigger and spaceier than her room in Japan. But she didn't like it any more. That room had had soul. And she had actually had friends visit her there.
She began to unpack. First she got all of her clothes out and organised her dresser. ~At least I have plenty of space for all my clothes!~ Once she had finished with that she carefully arranged all of her stuffed animals on the shelves that were along the wall. Her books came next, followed by her videos. It took her a couple of hours, but finally it was to her satisfactory.
Jaerite came to her that evening while her parents were out. They had gone to dinner with her father's boss. So they would have plenty of time alone.
Karyana smiled lovingly at him. She had been so happy to learn that his body had been freed by Usagi. It felt so good to be held by him again.
"Karyana," he began as he sat on her bed. "There is an urgent matter we must discuss. It has to do with the Mission."
The serious look on his handsome face caused her to blanch slightly. "What is it?" She prayed that they hadn't run out of time.
"Nothing like what I know you are thinking. In fact, it may help us to find the Crystals sooner." He studied her face. "You will no longer be Sailor Echo..." He readied himself for the attack.
"What? Why?" Her face clouded over with anger. Had she not shaped up enough? Or did they feel that she just wasn't the right person for the job? Perhaps her checkered past had something to do with it.
He stood and pulled out a necklace. It was the same one she had worn their last night on the Moon. "Take this." He smiled as she arched an eyebrow at him. "Trust me...."
She took the necklace. It took a lot for her to push back the painful memories the trinket provoked. She gasped as it filled the room with light. She had to close her eyes it was so bright. When she could see again, she looked into the mirror.
Her boots were white with lavender trim and went up to mid-thigh. The short skirt conisted of seperate three layers; white, silver and lavender. Her white gloves were long and trimmed with lavender and the sleeves were large, poofy and lavender. The collar was lavender as well. To complete the outfit, upon her back was a set of pale pink butterfly wings. Instead of a tiara she had a crescent moon tattooed on her forehead. In her hands she held a pink rod with two golden spheres on the ends; one had a golden 'V' over it.
"You will be known as Super Sailor Echo. Your powers have finally matured enough." He took her small hand in his. "This rod will be the base for your power. It can amplify your strength. Use it wisely."
She nodded. She was Sailor, no, Super Sailor Echo. She would fight for what was right. And she would find the Crystals.
"I don't believe you." She snatched her hand away, a look of annoyance on her face. "Teasing me that way!" She powered down and returned to her normal form. She really wished that she had lavender hair in real life, but her mother had freaked when she asked her if she could dye it a few years back. She took up her brush and ran it through her locks absently humming.
Jaerite smiled as he recognised this tactic. He stood and went to her, wrapping his arms around her. "What shall I do to make it up to you?" he murmured seductively.
Karyana turned to him, remembering how they had played this game in the past. If she were still that little whelp of a thing that she had been reborn as, she knew she would not be ready for this. She locked eyes with him and reached over to turn out the light. ~They'll be gone for hours...~
*****
3 weeks later....
"Help!"
Karyana knew that while her main goal was to find the Crystals and destroy Dessicus she also had a duty to protect. The instant she heard the cry, she transformed and hurried to the scene. She found a middleaged man being mugged.
"Stop!"
The mugger looked up in shock. He wore a ski mask and held a knife to the poor guy's throat. "Who are you?" he sneered as he took in her appearance. ~Probly some stupid wannabe.~
Remembering that the Sailor Soldiers were famous in Japan, not France she started her speech. "I am Super Sailor Echo! I will not allow you to harm innocent people! Say your prayers!" She raised her rod into the air. The words came to her. "Echo..." She spun gracefully, just like a figure skater. She did a perfect triple axle. "Surprise!" Beams of light raced towards the mugger. They wrapped around him and he was pulled away from his intended victim. As he was lifted into the air, sirens could be heard in the distance. Several police cars came into view.
Echo was quick to hide but she still kept the mugger bound.
One policeman got out of his patrol car. "What's going on?" He gaped at the sight of the man suspended in mid-air . "Monsieur?" Confusion was written on his face. All he saw was two men, he couldn't even see the light beams.
The bedraggled victim crawled forward. "There was... a woman. She saved me from this creep."
Sailor Echo hid behind a tree watching as the police arrested that mugger. Luckily, his victim was all right.
After giving his testimoy, the man picked up his hat and look around for her. She was no where to be seen. "Whoever she was,I owe her my life."
Echo smiled as she watched him go. She had seen his face on TV recently. She knew what needed to be done. ~He does owe me. And I know how he can repay me...~
*****
Brian Cartier sat at his desk writing. He couldn't get his mind off the girl who had saved him. If she had not come along, his wife and children would have never known what happened.
"Monsieur Cartier! There is a young girl here to see you," his secretary said as she opened the door to his office. A young girl with brown hair and silver eyes entered.
"You!" He recognized her instantly, despite the fact that she now wore a black pantsuit and her hair was a normal color. He motioned for her to sit. As soon as they were alone he spoke again. "You saved me..."
Karyana raised a hand to silence him. "Monsieur, there is something I need to ask of you." She silently kept her fingers crossed.
"Anything."
A small smile graced her face. "I have done some research on you. You are a very influential man in France. And I know that you have much power over the media."
"Yes. In fact I own three television stations and two radio. Why?"
"I am here on a mission. I can not complete it if I am to be continually swamped by the media. And my mission is vital to save the Earth. I can not say more as it would endanger you and your loved ones."
Brian stroked his chin thoughtfully. "Well, then I'm sure I can arrange for something...some way to keep people from hounding you." He smiled. "After all, if it weren't for you I would be dead."
"Merci beaucoup, Monsieur." She stood. "I know that you are a good man. As I said...I did my research." She turned and walked to the door. "Au revoir." As an after thought, she reached into her pocket. "Take this." She handed him a small jewel. "If you or your family ever need help, just call."
Gratefully he took it. He touched her hand as he did so. It was warm. He didn't know who she was or what she was doing here, but he knew that she was on their side. "Thank you... Sailor Echo." The last was barely above a whisper. All ready he vowed to keep her secret.
*****
Having allies was good, she decided. Once outside she slipped on her black sunglasses. ~One good thing about France, you get plenty of sun. Maybe I'll actually get a tan this year.~ She made her way to the studio apartment that Jaerite had chosen for their base of operations. It wasn't fancy like the one at the Crown Arcade, but Jaerite had set up a direct link to the main computer, should they need to contact Sailor Moon and the others. She wasn't really certain how he had aquired the funds to get a place of his own, whether he was working or merely using his powers. She didn't want him to drain himself dry. Perhaps Serenity had found a way to live with only the power of one Crystal, but they were dependent on all of them.
Knocking on the door, she went inside. Jaerite and Maverick were there waiting for her return.
"How did it go?" her Guardian asked.
She reached over and ruffled his feathers. "Great. He was more than happy to help. You were right on the mark with that one, as usual!"
She went to the kitchen to make herself a snack. But there was only a bottle of water and a package of cheese inside. Sighing she made a sandwich, though she was hungrier than that. "Jaerite, love, if you expect me over here, you're going to have to stock up on some necessities. I'll make you a list."
Her prince chuckled. "Well, I'm not really one to cook, so I figured take out would do." He turned serious. "Maverick has news." He was still in some shock so was leaving it for the great bird to tell. ~What will she tell her parents?~ he wondered.
Karyana tossed her suit jacket aside and sat down next to Jaerite. "What is it?" She idlely wondered if he had any peanut butter. ~That's what this sandwich needs!~
The great bird ducked his head. "Soon, a child will be born."
Karyana stared at him. "Eh... wha?!"
Maverick looked at her. "Though I'm not around all the time, it's easy for me to decipher the signs. I have known you since you were a newborn babe. A few weeks ago, you and Jaerite concieved."
Suddenly, she had no appitite.
*****
"Come on...Usagi-chan, answer." Karyana was desperate. She needed to talk to Sailor Moon ~She's probably asleep. Or out with Mamoru.~
A bleary eyed face answered the call. As soon as she saw Karyana though... "Karyana-chan!" Usagi squealed. "What's up? Are you okay?"
"Usagi! Listen. It's important." She took a deep breath. "I'm pregnant."
"EH!?" The blond shrieked. "Pregnant! How!" A blush settled over her face. "Ah! I mean, I know HOW."
Karyana giggled and said, "It's okay. Jaerite and I will be getting married in a few months. My parents won't be thrilled, but I have a feeling that once they see the baby, they'll forgive me. Besides, Maverick was saying that it might be a good idea to explain everything to them."
Usagi was silent as she listened to her friend. "Karyana," her tone was serious. "I want you to have your title back. You are after all my aunt. You should be the princess."
"Usagi..." Karyana smiled. "When the day comes that you're crowned Queen, THEN we can talk about that."
They talked for a few more minutes, but soon they had to go. Karyana knew that her life was going to be very strange for a while. She still needed to find the Crystals, but she would soon also have a new responsibility. She hoped she had a daughter. That way, she could repay all of Usagi's kindness and send her another Soldier to protect her. Crystal Toyko was upon them. One day soon, the Earth would be united again. And though she and Jaerite would not rule, it was fine. She wanted to be able to raise her family. But she would still be ready if they needed her.
"Usagi... You deserve to be Queen." The girl was the one in the legends. The one with the purest of hearts and sweetest of dreams. Soon, Chaos would come, but Sailor Moon would triumph. She was...
*****
"...a Princess born from the light of the Moon."
I still can't believe how beautiful you are. So tiny and fragile. And you are mine.
"The Sleep is coming. Soon the Earth will be frozen. It will be that way for many years. But do not fear, Little One."
"Karyana?"
"Here's your father." Still smiling, I hand you to him. Don't worry. We shall always love and protect you.
"She's smiling."
My darling Jaerite, my husband. Look at this miracle we have brought into the world.
"She has your hair, dearest Prince." The way you look at me...do you know that you are a princess?
"She is as beautiful as you, Princess."
Gently I lift you into my arms and go to your crib. "It's time for bed. After all, we will be sleeping for a long time." I smile down at you again. "Welcome, Elizabeth Karyana Donelli. My little Moon Princess."
The Sleep is here. I can feel it. All around, the people of the Earth, and all other life, has begun to fall to it. It is not the terrible ice age that the scientists predicted. No, instead, it is gently claiming everyone. Slowly, they all begin to drift off, many of them with their loved ones. Are you warm enough? Arranging the blanket around your tiny body, I can't help but giggle. This freeze is not the kind that will harm us.
I can feel my dear friends Ami, Minako, Makoto, Rei, Mamoru, Luna, Artemis... and Usagi. They are slowly drifting off. The Soldiers of the Outer Planets Uranus, Neptune and Saturn are also falling under the spell. Pluto has returned to the Time Gate. Everyone on the planet is sleeping now.
Except for us.
"Karyana?"
I smile at him. He is holding out his hand to lead me to the bed. But I can't. Not just yet. "There is one thing I must do before I sleep." I go to my desk and start to write.
"Usagi-chan...I suppose I should say Neo-Queen Serenity. By the time you get this, you would have awakened the world with the power of your Silver Crystal. There are many things I need to tell you."
Carefully, I describe in detail everything that has happened to me since I first became Sailor Echo. I want her to know that I hold no grudges against her. She is part of my family and I love her dearly. I also tell her about my mission.
On that note, all of the Crystals were found. I found them all in the hearts of the people. I was just fortunate to find them before Chaos could get here. And we defeated Dessicus as well.
"I want you to know just how much you mean to me. I started out life bad. I nearly lost my way. But I have you and the others to thank for helping me."
I smile as I recall Usagi's concern for my weak heart. "Oh, and you don't have to worry about my health anymore. My powers have matured to the point where I am no longer completely dependant on the Crystal."
It is calling me. The urge to stop and sleep right now is strong. I need to finish this though.
"Usagi, please, do not forget me. I want my friends to remember me as I am now. I love each of you with all my heart."
I am so tired...
"I must go. My husband and child are waiting for me to join them. Soon, I will join you again...Karyana."
I use my powers to send the letter to Pluto, knowing that she will make certain Usagi gets it. Slowly I stand and follow Jaerite to the bed. Together we lay down and await it.
I can't help but think back to all that has happened. If Metallia had never invaded our galaxy, would I have been as happy, as fulfilled as I am now? Would I have met Usagi, or had Elizabeth? My eyes are so heavy...
Sleep claims me. *****
The end of Sailor Echo: A Princess' Journey (Revised)
*****
NOTES!!!!
Okay, you're all probaly like "WHEN DOES THIS TAKE PLACE!?" It starts at the end of SuperS and continues on to the end of Stars (manga version). That's why the Outers are only mentioned. The original story (still up at A Sailor Moon Romance) took place between the Doom Tree arc and Black Moon arc of the R series of the anime. I like the manga storyline better. And as my story is more fast paced, it makes sense to use that storyline. There is more to the story. When I wrote the orignal years ago, people emailed me wanting to read about Karyana's adventures in France. That story never got posted, but will be soon. It moves quickly too. The rest of the story is coming soon! Thanks for reading!
Disclaimer!!!!! I wish I owned at least a little bit of Sailormoon.... *sniff* But sadly, I'm just a poor little girl who happens to love the beautiful story of Tsukino Usagi!
Please don't use Karyana or my version of Sailor Echo. I spent many hours molding her into my ideal fan fic character. And it wasn't easy! ^_~
