| I first heard Doris Day at the age of 19. My manager of the firm I worked for at the time, liked Doris and quite often would bring her cds in to play. I wasnt feeling well at the time but found her singing very inspiring and really raised my spirits. Following this experience, I went straight to the local market and brought a cheap 1 cd of her and played it everynight for the next week! I now have a full cd collection of Doris Day as well as a few videos! I have always believed that music should be emotional and Doris Day is certainly that! Doris Mary Ann Kappelhoff was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, April 3rd 1924 and as a young girl decided the thing she wanted out of life was to be a wife, mother and a nice little house. She never dreamed of international superstardom! At the age of 16 Doris had been discovered by Grace Raine, whose friend worked at the local radio station, and this started off her long and eventful career. She became known as Doris "Day". There is nowhere near enough space to mention the songs she sung and the films she starred in but to me the songs I find most inspiring and beautiful listen to are Secret Love, Move Over Darling, Lover Come Back, Tunnel of Love, The Black Hills of Dakota, Here in my Heart, Swinging on a Star and Makin Whoopee! I think the thing I admire most about Doris is that she covered so many styles so that when you are happy, sad, in love, angry or hurt you can be sure there will be a song by Doris Day to inspire you! |
