He was a participant in the battles of Luka, Corinth, Jackson, the Siege of Vicksburg for forty seven days, at Champion Hills, Missionary Ridge, and other places. He was wounded in the arm in battle 14 May 1863 in Jackson, Hinds, Mississippi. He was wounded again at the Battle of Champion Hills 16 May 1863. He was captured by a part of General Hood's confederate forces 13 Oct 1864 in Tilton, Whitfield, Georgia. He was imprisoned at Andersonville for nine months in Andersonville, Sumter, Georgia. He was mustered out 15 Apr 1865 in Davenport, Scott, Iowa. He was receipted for and released 18 Apr 1865 in Vicksburg, Warren, Mississippi. He was furloughed for 30 days 6/7 May 1865. He was released from service 26 May 1865. He resided at the time of his release from service in La Harpe, Hancock, Illinois. He moved 1878 to Dorchester, Saline, Nebraska.
