The Charros and Maximiliano



The Charros… Of its atuendos and attire… The remarkable historian Luis Perez Verdía in his book “Particular History of Jalisco” (1911) makes reference to the rich mess orderly who: “… he used dress of leather or sort of wool, sleeves or sarape of estambre or Forecastle, that reached the price of one ounce of gold, boots to mount calls of bell with leather fastenings or forts tapes of color and sobrero of wide skirt…” The suit charro has, between its antecedents, the atuendos of the Hispanic riders, who made articles truely extraordinary, specially sumptuous, with adornments of silver and gold. According to some historians, its main origin is in the suit of Salamanca, Spain, to which also “Charro” was called.

Maximiliano of Hapsburg Maximiliano was without a doubt one of the great promoters of the suit of charro.
