In 1994, Douglas Berlon worked with Mariemont Players to create a subsidiary group called Mariemont Yong Peoples' Theatre (MYPT).  MYPT was formed exclusively for literary and educational purposes to include the encouragement of art through the presentation of plays and musicals, the study of the  production of a play and education on general theatre/business management.  Most importantly, MYPT was created to offer a safe, clean, productive and exciting environment for students throughout the Tri-State to explore their interest in theatre and to learn from their peers throughout the community.

MYPT is responsible to the MPI Board of Directors and is Directed and Produced by adult members; however, MYPT predominately consist of young people assuming all of the acting roles and as many technical positions as are feasible.

Since 1996, MPI has given the Elston Hurst Scholarship to a MYPT student who is either in or entering collage. This was an idea from Elston's long time friend and fellow director, Norma Niinemets who wanted to honor the memory of Elston who pioneered summer musicals for MPI. All of the previous winners have enjoyed success in school and in their careers.

Hundreds of MYPT students and thousands of patrons have enjoyed:
1995 - Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat
1996 - A Day in Hollywood, A Night in the Ukraine
1997 - Big River
1998 - Godspell
1999 - School House Rock, Live
2000 - Oklahoma
We look forward to many more years of successful shows and flourishing students.
