ANTIGUA GUATEMALA |
|
|

I called it " My second Home", Antigua is among the oldest and most beautiful cities in the Americas. Antigua is especially beautiful during "Semana Santa" (Easter week) when the streets are capeteted with elaborate decorations of colored sawdust and flower petals... I Have a friend who lives there (Karla) and she invited me to spend there the holidays, I really enjoy been there!!!
The city's churches have lost much of their Boroque splendor, the post-earthquake repair and restoration leaving them denuded of embellishment and elegance. Also, Antigua have set amid 3 volcanos , Agua , Fuego & Acatenango... Its superb yet sturdy colonial buildings have weathered 16 earthquakes and numerous floods and fires.
Spanish language courses are a popular feature of Antigua.
Antigua Guatemala is so peaceful, but in the nights Antigua changes... cause you can enjoy the variety of Restaurants , Discos & Pubs, with that special colonial environment.

The atraccion here is the absolutely gorgeous caldera lake ( a water filled collapsed volcanic cone). Volcanoes surround the lake, and the town is the starting point for excursions to the smaller , more traditional indigenous villages on the western and southern shores of the lake. This place is called "Place of the foreingners", since the hippy days of the 60's, laid-back travelers have flocked here to swim in Atitlan Lake and generally chill out.
I really like PANA cause the beautiful landscapes...

Is a excellent base for excursions to the many nearby villages, noted for their handicrafts and hot springs... I have been there just for a few times, but i really like the central square and the buildings wich surround it, also the beautiful volcanic countryside surrounding XELA features natural steam baths. |

FLORES |

WOW... The capital of the jungle!!! Flores is built on as island on Peten Itza Lake, the city was founded by the Itzaes and at the time of the conquest was perhaps the last still functioning Mayan ceremonial center in the country.
Also here we can find The National Park (Acquiered the rank of National Monument for its extraordinary cultural richness and the variety of flora and fauna species) The area where the remains of architecture are found occupies practically the center of the 576 square Kilometers that embraces it. It's so exciting been there cause you can explore some of the most important temples, pyramids and places of this Maya metropolis.
