Girl Talk, part 4.
Hormones 101:
Are they for you?
Maria's Transgender Palace
WARNING!!!!   Hormones are powerful drugs.  Anything that I have to say is merely opinion and should not be regarded as medical advice.
Please consult with a physcian before trying any sort of drug.

Should you take hormones, and if so what type?

First, hormones for Tranz people come in two types:  1. herbal and  2. prescriptives.

Hormones alter the normal ratio of male/female hormones in your body.  For m to female persons, generally we seek some sort of feminization.  HRT can hellp us reach our goals of gaining  enlarged breasts, pad the hips, soften facial features and other changes.
Beware: Most of the results of hormone therapy will be permanent.  .  You should only consider hormone therapy if you are seriously thinking about transitioning to live full-time.

The best way to get on any type of horomone therapy is to consult a doctor.  Many doctors will require that you have a letter from  a therapist stating that you are pursuing some sort of transsexual lifestyle, and that you are not a loony-toon.  Occasionally you may find doctors who are willing to work with you without a letter, but they are a rarity.

Most hormone therapies will not be covered by insurance, and they can be costly.  Even herbal hormones, if you get the extracts, and pay attention to brand names can become expensive.

Hormones and testosterone blockers can do the following:  grow breasts, pad hips, thicken hair,  soften your facial features and skin, reduce muscle mass,

They also can, and eventually will cause impotence, shrinking of the testicles, may cause depression, nipple soreness, weight gain and excessive urination.

Hormones will not make your feet (although I've dropped 1/2 size because of loss of muscle and fat)  or hands grow smaller, change your voice,   or turn you into Brittany Spears.
Herbal Hormones.    (Pros & Cons)

Can cause some slight feminization.  For the most part, I don't they think they work well for extensive feminization.  Others swear by them, so who knows....  If you think you might be interested in trying herbal hormones, there's a great website out with a wonderful herbal doctor at
sissify.com. (You can click on the link to get there
Prescriptive Hormones

These hormones definately work and I've got the boobs to prove it!  If you are serious about making changes to your body, I'd skip the herbals and get busy with the prescriptive stuff.
AGAIN, it's best to do it under the supervision of a doctor.

Most girls start off on a low dose of premarin.  That's what I did, then increased the number of pills.  Eventually, I started taking Progynon  Depot 100 shots.  Unfortunately, I understand Progynon  Depot 100 is no longer manufactured.  Currently I'm on Estradiol shots (1 every three weeks). I had to cut the spiro because it affects my ability to wear my contact lenses (necessary due to cornea degeneratrion)I
The best resource on the web is  the
Transsexual Woman's Resource Page    There you will find not only info on hormones, doses, and  sources that don't require a prescription.  Dr. Anne Lawrence, the site administrator also has reviews of recent SRS surgeries including work by Drs.  Toby Meltzer, Menard, Schrang, etc.  Check it out!
Estrogens & Anti-Androdgens

Estrogens.  Simply put.  Female hormones.  Herbal forms are contained in black cohosh, and soy products.  Prescriptive forms include Premarin, & Estradiol,

Anti-Androgens.  These drugs block male hormone/testosterone production.  They include  the herb saw palmetto, and the prescriptive spirolactone, and Proscar.

Progestins.  Mexican Yam is the herbal; Provera is the script form.

Silicone Injections. There is an underground market that provides silicone injections into areas such as hips, butt, face, etc.  Many of the top shemale porn stars use this method to maximize their  butt, boobs, cheeks, lips, etc.  .  Be sure to find a pro if you do this.  It can kill you if done improperly. Also, b sure that they use surgical grade silicone.
