As far back as 1887 (with the Schreiber Cricket Team), organized sports have always been an integral aspect of Schreiber's past. The "Riley Cup" was introduced for competition in 1894 when the first curling club formed AND could any self-professing Schreiberette ever imagine a Schreiber without hockey! This picture (dated late 1930's) portrays hockey at its best. A group of young lads out for a bit of fun. Front Row (Left-Right): Gordon MacPhail, J. MacIsaac, Bobby Smith, Len Hiller, Don Jaffray, Sonny Morrow. Back Row (Left-Right): George Riley, Reg Payette, Emerson Lavender, Neil MacIsaac, Unknown, Leonard Partridge, Don England. |
