In tracing the ancestry of United States Presidents, several areas become problematic, mainly due to location of the records.
1.Washington - identification and ancestry of his maternal grandmother, Mary ---, very likely Mrs. Mary Bennett Johnson, wife of Col. Joseph Ball, VA,England
2.Jefferson - origins of three great-grandfathers (Thomas Jefferson, Peter Field and Charles Rogers), VA
3.Madison - parentage of a great-grandmother, Mrs. Isabella Todd Madison, VA
4.Monroe - ancestry, beyoond parents, of his mother (Elizabeth Jones), paternal grandmother (Christian Tyler), and patrilineal great-grandparents (William Monroe & Margaret Bowcock), MD,VA,Scotland
5.Jackson - entire Scots-Irish ancestry (only his parents, paternal grandfather, patrilineal great-grandfather and the maiden surname of his maternal grandmother are known), Ireland
