WHERE
IS HINDI SPOKEN ? |
|
Hindi
is spoken as a mother tongue in uttar
pradesh, Haryana, Madhya
pradesh, Rajasthan, Bihar
and Himachal pradesh. It is a
second language in Punjab, Maharashtra,
Gujarat, Kashmir,
West Bengal and Goa,
where virtually everyone speaks and understands it. Hindi is also spoken
by some in northern Andhra pradesh,
Karnataka and parts of Orissa.
Only in kerala and Tamil
Nadu is Hindi of no
use to you (people in Tamil Nadu
are actively hostile to Hindi). Due to the popularity of Hindi films, the
language is widely understood in Katmandu,
the capital of Nepal, but not in
the rest of the country.
The northern language of India (Hindi,
Gujaratu,Punjabi,Bengali and Marathi ) are closely related to
each other , with similar script pronunciation, grammar and vocabulary ) .
The southern language (Tamil,
malyalam, telugu and kannada) are similar to each other but
very different to their northern counterparts. Both the northern and
southern language is derived from Sanskrit.
The map in book is simplified you cannot draw an exact line where
people don’t speak Hindi, because this depends on their education,
occupation and so on. And there are hundreds of dialects, some of which
claim to be separate language for a comparison of Hindi and Urdu.
You can use your Hindi in any of the areas north of the line shown
on the map. But you’ll obviously do better in places where Hindi is the
mother tongue. After a while you’ll be able to understand the gist of
most conversations that you overhear and with luck much of what is said to
you personally. |
