Mariah has again come out in support of her ex-husband Tommy Mottola after Michael Jackson labeled the Sony boss a racist, and dragged her into their war of words. Jacko, who is involved in a feud with Sony over their alleged under-promotion of his latest album Invincible, brought Mariah's name up during his accusations, claiming Mottola was tormenting the singer. He said earlier this month, "Mottola taps her phones, and he's very, very evil, she doesn't trust him. We have to continue our drive until he is terminated."
But despite their acrimonious 1998 split, Mariah has publicity denounced the allegations of racism. A spokeswoman for the diva says, "Throughout all the years she's known Tommy, she's never known him to be a racist. Mariah does not feel that he is such a person after all the support he had given her. Michael did not have Mariah's permission or consent to use her in his battle with Sony and did not want any part of it. Mariah feels Michael is wrong and she is rather surprised that he has dragged her into this. She's very upset with him." (wenn)

MARIAH TO WORK WITH DANIEL BEDINGFIELD 07/17/02 2:31 p.m.
Daniel Bedingfield, who scored a No 1 hit with Gotta Get Thru This, is collaborating with Mariah Carey on future tracks. The two artists are both signed to Island Def Jam in the US.
US producers The Neptunes are lined up to produce the tracks. Bedingfield, who has also contributed a track to H & Claire's debut album, says: 'I see myself very much as a writer. Barry White, Sting and Ms Dynamite are also on my list of people I would like to write with.'
Bedingfield is currently putting the finishing touches to his debut album, Gotta Get Thru This, due for release in August. His new single, James Dean, is released on 5 August. The singer is also expected to tour later in the year.

Mariah Carey has come to the defense of her ex-hubby, says a source. The singer has been uncharacteristically quiet during the nasty and sometimes bizarre feud between Michael Jackson and Tommy Mottola, head of Sony Music � in which the self-appointed King of Pop has called Mottola a racist and has depicted him as a devil for under-promoting his latest album.
Jackson has been saying that Mariah �cried in my arms� over Mottola�s treatment of her. He was referring, apparently, to the widely reported rift between Carey and her ex-hubby Mottola � who she accused of trying to sabotage her career. But Thalia, Mottola�s current wife, has been telling people that Carey phoned Mottola to offer her support in his dispute with Jackson. �Thalia said that Mariah called Tommy and said that she�s on his side, not on Michael�s,� says a source.
�She said Mariah said Michael�s wrong in this whole thing, that Tommy�s anything but a racist. She wants to leave her dispute with Tommy in the past and she�s rather appalled that Michael has dragged her into this thing.� Carey was in Capri, recording an album, but her spokeswoman says, �To the best of my knowledge, Mariah has not spoken to Mr. Mottola in several months.� Mottola�s office had no comment.

Mariah, who was laid low by a notorious nervous breakdown last year, has been suffering since her debut film "Glitter" and the album that accompanied it failed to meet expectations.
It's now rumored that Mariah has convinced Ashanti to write some chart-topping tunes for her comeback. Ashanti has had a great track record with songwriting - in addition to her own hits like "Foolish" she's already written and sung backing tunes for Jennifer Lopez.

The Sun reports Mariah Carey has asked Ashanti to write a song for her new album, which Mariah is currently recording in Capri. Carey was also recently photographed at a restaurant called 'Green Villa', where Mariah was entertained by Frank Schiano and given a surprise meal as well as special t-shirts made especially for her.

Mariah's Dad Dies
Condolences to Mariah Carey. The "Glitter" star lost her father, Alfred, to cancer.
He died on July 4 at his New York home.
The singer flew back from the Italian island of Capri last month to be with her dad during the final stages of his illness.
"She's grateful that she had a chance to spend these weeks with him," her rep told us.
Alfred, an engineer, and his wife, Patricia, a singer, divorced in 1973, when Mariah was 3. Though they were once estranged, in recent years they grew close again.
Mariah returned to Capri on Sunday to continue recording her first CD for Universal Music. Her rep said a memorial service is being planned.

Those rumors about Mariah Carey and Eminem that surfaced shortly before she freaked out last year? Eminem says they're true. But he's not exactly Carey's No. 1 fan. "I respect her as a singer, " he tells Rolling Stone, "but on the whole personal level, I'm not really feeling it." In fact, he admits, "I just don't like her as a person ... she doesn't really have it all together." Then again, he's not exactly itching to find his love match.
"I would rather f**king be on a coach flight with 'N Sync at the back of the plane in the last row in them seats that don't go back -- just stuck there with the bathroom out of order," he says. "I would rather have a baby through my penis than get married again."

Singer Mariah Carey's hope of a movie hit is becoming increasingly unlikely - her latest movie Wise Girls has been sold straight to cable television. The curvaceous star, who's big screen debut Glitter flopped at the box office last year, was hopeful the mobster comedy Wisegirls - co-starring Mira Sorvino, would prove her acting ability.
Despite a quite positive response at the Sundance Film Festival in January, the producer failed to find a distributor and was forced to sell it to cable. (WENN)

EUROPEAN WISE GIRLS UPDATE 07/04/02 1:21 a.m.
The Danish Mariah Carey Fanclub were just told by a representative of the company that holds the right to "Wise Girls" in Denmark that the movie is still scheduled for release in Denmark but that it will go straight to video/DVD most likely in October or November 2002.
The Belgian distributor of Wise Girls confirmed us that Belgian people will be able to see Wise Girls for sure. The movie will be released in the movie theaters or on DVD or in the movie theathers and on DVD. We are really happy with this great news.

The musical pair were spotted enjoying time together on 20 June 2002 at trendy New York eatery Serafina, where she had stopped by to pick up her cousin Sean, who's staying with her while visiting from the prestigious Harvard University.
After spending a little time sipping wine and chatting with friends, the curvaceous beauty asked to be introduced to the hunk. The glamorous pair chatted together till closing time at 4am, when they took our their pagers and exchanged numbers.
And pals of the star, who was dumped by her boyfriend Luis Miguel last year, leading to her emotional meltdown, believe Tyrese's love attention is just what Mariah needs to add to her positive reversal of fortune in the past few months.
Mariah has also signed a US$20 million (S$35.3 million) deal with Universal Records, after being dumped by Virgin.
