Editorial of the President of the Jack and Parson russell Terrier club in France.

This time it’s done !The Russel Terriers are separated in two variaties which the border size is 31cm.The Jack Russell Terier 25-30cm and the Parson Russell Terrier 31-36cm.The two variaties have been judjed separately at Hourtin. Our National club match has assembled 120 Russell Terriers. The distribution was for about 1/3 Jack Russell Terriers and 2/3 Parsons. The participants had to measure their dog before registering the dog in one or  the other variaty. The Parson Russell classes were very classic; The working  female class was of high level. The first of this class has won the BOB ,in front of the Jack Russell Terrier.

In the future, the club has to be alert concerning faults which appeared in the two variaties.Concerning the Jack Russell:forelegs are not always straight;they are often half-crooked.The ear could be better.Concerning Parson Russell Terriers:the circomference of the chest is often limit. The size tends to increase. The tail is often turned on the back.Which is not good.We can ask ourselves how that tail would look if it was undocked?

To improve thoses faults and preserve the qualitys of the 2 variaties, the Club has asked to the SCC(French kennel club)the justified permission to be able to mix them.Everyone knows that in our actual litters of Russell Terriers ,there are small and big ones, having the same genetic capital, but different by their sizes. The confirmatory juje will choose  at 12 months one of the two variaties, who will be kept.Dogs who have same proportions of head, same carriage of ears, same pigmentation, same coat, same balance, the same spanning, are not of different “type” as some people would like to see them.In that case anyway the Parson’s standard has been just changed, the dog is no more square but longer than tall. This modification is logical and fits to the reality.Imagine a Parson with 5cm  less leggs. He will appear to you longer ,preserving the same body proportions.

Happy New Year 2002.See you soon.
